Answer:
Hello JQ,
Thank you for your inquiry. The cameras included in this system have cables that include both video and power. The cables are ran to the DVR's location where the video connects to the DVR and power connects to an included power adapter. So the cameras do not pull power from the DVR but will be connected in the same location due to the cable design.

They need their own power source. The plugs are kind of cumbersome. So, a power strip will be needed to connect to 1 outlet. (one for plug for unit, 1 plug for camera and 1 for monitor)

The 65' cables include both video and DC power. (merged into one thin cable)
The DC power is provided by wallwart supply at the DVR site. Only the BNC video cables plug into the DVR. (There is a 1 to 4 adapter for the cams power).
The DVR uses it's own WallWart supply. (Both are marked where they are to be used).
The wallwarts are the newer type, without a heavy (hot) transformer.

I guess you could use a remote 12V power supply at a remote camera site, if you wanted to.
Then you could add plain 75 ohm coax cable (BNC connectors) to extend the video from the camera out to 100 feet or so. It might work pretty well..

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I love it Every thing works great! Wish I could mount camera base up side down. Mobile device works awsome. September 27, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good DVR with average cameras DVR met all of my needs: supporting 4 cameras with different viewing options, ability to manage remotely and connect via the Internet, many options to customize such as motion-activated recording, giving names to camera images, etc. The included bullet cameras, however, had a limited viewing angle, and wound up cutting off about 30% of the viewing area being covered. I have come to discover that this is a common limitation with bullet-style cameras, but an add'l reason for my knocking a few stars off was the experience I had when reporting this to Defender customer support. There really wasn't much of any response, and definitely no offer to exchange the cameras for different models. I could have returned the entire product, but that would have involved a lot of work and I did like the features / user interface with the DVR. So, I wound up selling the Defender cameras on eBay, and bought 4 dome (also infrared) cameras which had a wider viewing angle that included the entire area beneath the cameras. December 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Overall not a bad product I initially set up the system to view on a TV which was easy. Took awhile to view the cameras on my computer, but I am not too computer savvy. Liked the various options, such as blocking part of a camera's view from motion detection, various speeds of replay, ability to take a photo. However, the mouse provided to do the detailed setup did not work all the time. I ended up returning the product because the view from the cameras was clear, but replay was not. Also, did not get the range claimed for night vision nor did the cameras change to color at night. For my application the spot of installation required the cable connections to be exposed, which I didn't like. October 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Defender System This system is very easy to install and to operate. Very good quality for the price. January 21, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product and a Breeze to Install. The cameras work great. Day and night views are really clear. It gets pretty dark outside my house even with a porch light so the night vision is only about 15 feet. Best to have someone assist you with installing the cameras so they can view the screen and tell you the best angle before you drill holes. Beats climbing up and down a ladder adjusting them. The only snag I've run into is setting up to view the cameras on my computer/phone. I will have to call Defender for assistance on that one as the instructions are like solving a game of mahjong. August 21, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value Great value for this price. Installation was easy and the cameras preference setup is easy and user friendly. Downloading an event clip is quite simple. So far no technical issues with the equipment and it seems to hold through the cold temp during the night. The only issue I have is that the vision during night monitoring is not as expected and for sure it's not 100 feet as advertised. Nonetheless, now that I'm used to monitor my property, I'm sorry I didn’t buy the 8 cameras package which would have provided me with much wider viewing options. October 29, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very decent for the cost! If you are installing the cameras on the opposite side of your house, you might need to order some extra cable length. My goal is to have the cameras record only when there is actually something there to record. I'm having trouble tweaking it to do so. It seems to be constantly recording nothing. It does have some adjustments for this. It has been somewhat windy lately, and it seems like the movement of the bushes or trees is setting off the motion sensor. April 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Okay for the price Having a camera system is great period, but installing for me was not that easy. I had to crawl in the attic , poke my head with nails a couple of times because it's so congested in there. They forgot to mention how much people charge to install the system. Now that I looked at the camera view, the angle and wide view is just not there. Maybe I just picked the wrong ones for my need. These cameras are good don't get me wrong. But they are not what I expected. Another thing is connecting to the internet to view a live footage, I couldn't figure that out because the instructions are not good , they just show you how to set up the system not the internet. I would probably pick the cameras with the bubble housing those have a wider view, these point to a certain area and won't let you see who's creeping up from the side. Get the 75 yard view that's all you'll need for a topical residence. June 3, 2014
