Questions & Answers

Can the sensor and the keypad be mounted at a 90 degree angle to each other?

My particular need is one where my door opens outward and the inside surface of the door and the door frame are not flush with each other.
Asked by: Doogie
Hi Doogle If you mean can the magnet be rotated 90 degrees about the LONG axis, then yes. I had to do that for the same reason you do - the inside surface of the door is at right angles to the mounting surface for the unit. See my photo below - and it worked great.

My device needed a battery change. How do i get the chime to work. Not alarm

Asked by: Pat
Hi Pat When you replace the batteries you should see a small switch at the top of the battery compartment. One setting is for "chime", the other for "alarm". Setting it to "chime" makes the unit sound a short "beep" when the door is opened. I hope that helps.

Home Security Shed and Garage Wireless Alarm is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Works if you have a shed, sorta. First, the instructions are printed so small you may need a lens to read them. Next, the screw that holds the battery compartment cover in place is NOT RETAINED. Resulting in the screw rolling off my workbench and onto the floor. And if you try to change the batteries while you’re in the shed or garage, guess what? Yep, it's gone! You really don't need it anyway. Now for the major issue: You need to mount this device on the INSIDE of your garage or shed. Which presents the problem of the 45 second delay before the alarm goes off. If you have a garage door opener, it probably takes at least 45 seconds for it to open, not to mention getting out of your car to be there to immediately disarm it without shocking your neighbors. It's loud. You can get out of your car, unlock the front door, walk into your garage, disarm the device, open the garage door, get back into your car...well, you get it. It might work better mounted to the inside of your shed, if you have one, and it's dry, and you have a light at night. There you'll probably be able to disarm the device as soon as the door is opened. Oh, and you can't mount it to the door, which may cause damage to the alarm. And the magnetic sensor MUST be within 0.4 inch of the alarm. All of which presents their own challenge. The audible alarm is surprisingly loud for such a small device, which is its only redeeming trait. And it is recommended you test (read: shock the neighbors) at least every month. Sorry if I got wordy. Maybe I'm expecting too much?

Ok, first of all, I cannot read the instructions AT ALL, even with a magnifying glass. The print is WAY too small! Second, my apartment door is not flush with the wall and the gap between the wall and the door is greater than 1/2 inch... therefore this is useless to me. I didn't even get to put it up. Plus, it only goes on with a single screw hold? I mean, someone could easily pull that off my door and smash it. it should come with a sticky like the sensor. I don't want to be putting holes in my apartment door either. Very disappointed.

The battery operated wireless alarm is designed primarily for a separate building such as a detached garage or shed. It does not connect to your main home security system, but I wish it did. The instructions are easy to follow, making the alarm easy to install for anyone who can hold a screw driver. It is easy to set your security code, install batteries and make adjustments such as siren or chimes.

I just received The Home Security Shed and Garage Wireless Alarm by Defiant in the mail today. When I saw that it was available, I was a bit skeptical about placing it in my cart, but my better half has been wanting something to help deter would be thieves from breaking and entering into our shed out back. Well, unfortunately, it is pretty useless as an alarm in my opinion. 1. There are only 16 possible different codes that are available. That's really not a lot and anyone with half a brain could go through all 16 in a very short period of time to stop the alarm. 2. There is no monitoring service available. So, when the alarm goes off in the middle of my neighborhood, like most car alarms, it will be ignored. 3. The alarm, although loud, is not loud enough for my purpose. My shed is located about 100ft from my back door. The alarm can be heard, however, there is no way I can hear it inside of the house with music on or even the television on. 4. Finally, the delay from the time the door is opened to the time the alarm is triggered is 45 seconds. That gives a would be intruder enough time to take the senor off of the wall, smash it to pieces, and run off with my stuff with out me ever knowing. So, because it is pretty useless with respect to its main function, I can't possibly give it my recommendation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too Limited for My Use I quickly learned two things playing with the Home Security Shed and Garage Wireless Alarm: It only has 16 codes (limited to digits 1-4) and is easily defeated. It's fairly easy to install – but is more easily removed. It's held by sliding onto a screw mounted in the door or frame, and simply pulling "up" slides the unit off the screw. That means if a bad guy opens the shed door and sees the alarm, he has the 30-second entrance delay to remove it, throw it, muffle it, or simply smash it before the siren goes off. He would even have time to unscrew the back and remove the batteries, provided he had a small screwdriver available. There is no way to disable or change the entry delay so the alarm sounds sooner. That makes it pretty useless as a security device to me. The “Chime” option is more useful, but on a shed or garage the person opening the door already knows it's open, so there's not much point to the chime. Still, it was easy to program the code, though the lack of digits 5-9 made it difficult to choose anything complex or memorable. One odd thing: the keyboard “beeps” don't occur until you RELEASE the button, which feels awkward but I got used to it. As others have said, the alarm is loud up close, but I would never hear it from inside my house 25 feet away, especially with the shed door closed. Some might find it provides peace of mind; not for me though.
