About the Heath Zenith Wireless Motion Activiated Alert Set.

About the Heath Zenith Wireless Motion Activated Alerted Set - the image shows two pieces, the motion sensor and the plug in device. Here are my questions: (1) the plug in device gets plugged into a wall outlet and a light plugged into the device? Is this right? I found such descriptions a little vague. (2) Is there a built-in alarm of the plug in device or does the homeowner attach a noise maker to the plug in device? (3) If the alarm/noise maker is built in, how loud is it? Would it be easily heard outside if the device is installed inside?

When something is within range of my porch a tone or beep sounds three times inside the home. It is not too loud, but will wake me or get my attention. At the same time a light comes on in my front room. For the most part my cat has learned that if he comes on the porch at night it will wake me to let him in..... dual use. Great, the cat has used it as a tool to train me. Works well for the money though. Read Less

Question (1) yes or anything like a alarm so the sound is louder. (2) sound and "light comes on at same time, however alarm is " not so loud beep " for a second or two and light stays on longer. You kinda answered your own question about the alarm use the built in not so loud alarm and add a " Noise maker to the plug. ( might not be so fun about 3:00 AM )

I could just barely hear mine outside the house with the volume set at max volume and the windows open.

That's what I did to help answer the question "was that the alarm, the washing machine, dryer or microwave"?

Mike - the inside plug-in receiver portion makes an "alert" sound that only goes off when motion is detected outside. It beeps several times and then stops. It does not make a continuous "alarm" sound.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Old motion sensor wore out. This one replaced it and has worked correctly for three months now. October 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Work OK It works well at short distances less that 75 feet and sometimes it needs to be reset. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great, AND an unintentional cat doorbell!?! I mounted this on the mailbox post, aimed back at my house (to avoid passing vehicles from setting it off) and it works great! My kitty seems to think I am suddenly very well-trained to open the door for him in the evening... An unintended "benefit" I suppose. The bell might be difficult for those who have a hard time hearing higher pitches, but the associated plug (which can turn on a lamp) would work for that scenario. Good buy, good price, well worth getting a heads up regarding someone coming on the property! February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by We like it, but ....!! We love the ability to HEAR when someone is approaching our front door and/or our carport. We've had similar "gadgets" like these (we have 2) but they were connected to motion detector lights. They were great!!! Lowe's quit carrying them. The only real problem with this item is that the warning signal is too low - too low. Yes you can hear it from almost anywhere in the house but sometimes it gets muffled by the noise of the TV, a passing car, our dog barking (she can distinguish which unit is sounding off), or some other distraction. Others have complained about this but they're complaints just seem to fall on deft ears. If I could find something better I would send these back but I don't think that would help. December 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Motion sensor. Works great, lets us know when some one was at the door or when the mail was in. January 19, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by not as good as advertised Fast delivery, however, product did not perform as well as advertised. Works well indoors if you do not have to send signal through to many walls. Outdoors forget it! Motion detector was placed outside less than 5 feet (five) from alert unit which was indoors one wall with window in between and it would not signal at all. After trying several indoor outdoor locations, I resigned myself to the fact that you get what you pay for. I will be returning it. August 19, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very useful product I've used these before and like the performance. I have purchased 6 of these and they work well except one of the sensors which was previously purchased has failed. September 1, 2015
