About the Heath Zenith Wireless Motion Activiated Alert Set.

About the Heath Zenith Wireless Motion Activated Alerted Set - the image shows two pieces, the motion sensor and the plug in device. Here are my questions: (1) the plug in device gets plugged into a wall outlet and a light plugged into the device? Is this right? I found such descriptions a little vague. (2) Is there a built-in alarm of the plug in device or does the homeowner attach a noise maker to the plug in device? (3) If the alarm/noise maker is built in, how loud is it? Would it be easily heard outside if the device is installed inside?

When something is within range of my porch a tone or beep sounds three times inside the home. It is not too loud, but will wake me or get my attention. At the same time a light comes on in my front room. For the most part my cat has learned that if he comes on the porch at night it will wake me to let him in..... dual use. Great, the cat has used it as a tool to train me. Works well for the money though. Read Less

Mike - the inside plug-in receiver portion makes an "alert" sound that only goes off when motion is detected outside. It beeps several times and then stops. It does not make a continuous "alarm" sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, AND an unintentional cat doorbell!?! I mounted this on the mailbox post, aimed back at my house (to avoid passing vehicles from setting it off) and it works great! My kitty seems to think I am suddenly very well-trained to open the door for him in the evening... An unintended "benefit" I suppose. The bell might be difficult for those who have a hard time hearing higher pitches, but the associated plug (which can turn on a lamp) would work for that scenario. Good buy, good price, well worth getting a heads up regarding someone coming on the property!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We like it, but ....!! We love the ability to HEAR when someone is approaching our front door and/or our carport. We've had similar "gadgets" like these (we have 2) but they were connected to motion detector lights. They were great!!! Lowe's quit carrying them. The only real problem with this item is that the warning signal is too low - too low. Yes you can hear it from almost anywhere in the house but sometimes it gets muffled by the noise of the TV, a passing car, our dog barking (she can distinguish which unit is sounding off), or some other distraction. Others have complained about this but they're complaints just seem to fall on deft ears. If I could find something better I would send these back but I don't think that would help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this little Alert! I just can't believe all the negative reviews on this. We've had ours for over 8 yrs, and just love it. We've used it in two different homes and no problems. I have ours mounted on a peak at roof level above our front porch around 20 ft. high. I had my son stay on the ladder while I walked all over my front yard everywhere I wanted the alarm to sound. I even got it to stop at the curb so the passing cars wouldn't set the alarm off, just by having my son keep adjusting it (just barely move it) until I had it alarming every bit of our front and driveway side of the yard. Its been in the weather all these years with no problems. You will have to change the two batteries on the motion sensor outside, but my son climbs on a ladder to do mine. If you have a tree in your yard, mount it to that facing the front of your house and it will cover the whole front of your home and go off as soon as someone passes that tree, then you don't have to worry about cars setting it off. Then tilt it up some about waist high to go off and you won't have dogs and cats setting it off either. My husband and son go working out of town alot and i'm left home alone, I can't tell you how much better I feel knowing this works so good. I have the alarm part plugged into an outlet in a spare middle bedroom and can hear it from all over my house. In the day I know when someone is about to ring my front doorbell before their even up to the porch. But, be advised a dog and cat, etc. will also set it off. I just wish everyone on here would've had the same results as we have had. Only saw the bad reviews because I was hoping Home Depot still had these. Buying one for my recenly divorced daughter whose afraid of being alone at night. You also have to set the little dip stick thingy's on the same frequency between both pieces. Maybe thats why these peoples didn't work. All i know is I just love it.
