I selected the Delta over the Jet based on reviews and maybe a little on the cost. The package came and the box looked as though it had been properly handled. when I opened the box, everything seemed to be in one plastic bag. The box was so heavy I decided to unload the box piecemeal and carry to the basement for assembly. I picked up the housing and noticed the back was broken off.
The package was shipped directly from Delta, and it looked to me as though the sent me an item that had been returned and not checked.
I bought the Jet.

This was not for me, so I can not say anything about it, however the owner was very happy and still is with his new machine. He told me that now he can finish the job he always dreams about.

Very impressed with power and accuracy, easy to assemble and went to work within an hour of opening the box.

My husband purchased this tool for his workshop. He likes the mortise machine.

Overall, a good product. I replaced my old one with a new one but found the new depth stop rod would not fit into the badly machined hole. I ground the rod down to fit nicely now. The work piece hold down seems to be of less material than the old one so I just swapped them and use the more substantial one. The 1/2 inch hollow chisel seemed to be not quite as sharp as my old one. Requires more pressure and has a little more tear out (even with a scrap piece under the work piece) than my old chisels. I find the 3/8 chisel works fine. This is the one I use most for mortise and tenons. Works great. Overall, this is still a great machine and I'd buy another if I needed. Has nice, large work base area.

Machine sets up fairly easily, but mine needed some extra attention with the mating surfaces that the head slides up and down on. They still don't line up exactly but it will suffice, almost no play now anyway. The post that the work piece holddown slides on is very rough and has to be pulled up on evenly to get it to move. In spite of what the instructions say, you will need an additional hex wrench for assembly. The lever that moves the head assembly only goes into position 2 ways. One position is too far back and the other is too far forward, making it awkward to operate. This is my first mortising machine but I certainly would have to think that other cheaper brands would be better than this one. Rather disappointed, Delta used to be an excellent brand.

I wanted a good mortising machine but didn't want to pay big money for it. I chose this Delta and it hasn't disappointed. It works great and is sturdy enough for the most demanding jobs. The only complaint I night have is that the hold downs on the fence are plastic and cheap. I feel that if I turn them just a little too much they'll surely break. But other than that I would recommend this machine for anyone needing one at a really good price

The detail assembly instructions are not the best. In fact I still have not gotten the entire machine assembled and will invite a friend over to help me understand the instructions. I swear they hire these people to write the instructions whose brains live in a different dimension than the rest of the world!
