There is a top but it is relatively flimsy particle board , be prepared to add a thicker plywood top for heavier use.

Yes the table comes with an MDF top, Depending on your use (will there be any water involved while using your table), you may want to add a solid piece of wood or stainless.

Answer:
You can drill holes in it and mount a vise. I would reinforce the bottom of the area you are considering mounting with a piece of 1/2" plywood and some washers to have a more secure mount. I hope this helps.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 56 reviewers.
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Fault with Bench The write up said legs were adjustable, I was trying to get level with another bench, and adjustments were in 1/2 inch increments, so couldn't make work. January 26, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by You get what you pay for... This is a true example of "You get what you pay for." I opened the package and assembled the workbench, not without difficulty. 1. At least 4 to 6 holes where the top stringer connects to the leg assembly had to be drilled out because the welding was off and the holes in the welded sections were misaligned. 2. There were 8 machine screws missing. 3. The flake board (particle board) work surface came through with crumbling corners, and there was a lot of particle board dust in the packaging. 4. The holes on the top cross-members should line up so you can drill the woods screws in through them. 5. Per above...poorly engineered product. If you're not a professional, and don't need a super terrific workbench, then this is the one for you. If you intend to do heavy duty work, I'd suggest you invest in a heavy duty workbench, preferably from another manufacturer. March 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Product is perfect for the job I purchased the 48 IN. W X 24 IN. D workbench which has double electrical knockouts. I am using the bench in my basement workshop. it is very sturdy and is the perfect size. I plan on purchasing other accompanying segments such as drawer systems and shelves. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who need a high quality, fairly priced workbench. April 30, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by A piece of junk! Poorly built, poorly packaged, missing parts, paint damaged, mis-aligned welding and holes. I can't believe Home Depot would even sell such a piece of junk. September 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job I had some difficulty driving in the wood screws as there were no starter holes drilled; I got four screws out of 18 in place and gave up, most intense workout I've had in years. Otherwise it's a work bench and it's good at that. Overall I'm pleased with the price, product and service and would recommend it to others. July 28, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by not as sturdy as advertised I bought a couple of these to use as workbenches along with a couple of smaller benches by the same company , they were advertised as heavy duty but were relatively lightweight ,2x4 benches would have served me better , if all you need is a bench to put things on then they are ok , but don't think about putting a vice or anything heavy on them , I ended up screwing them to the wall of my shop and adding a thicker top and now they are useable for my needs . June 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very useful in my garden shed Bench was easy to assemble and other than missing some of the nuts and bolts (outer package was damaged and some of pieces fell out in shipment), it was exactly what I needed in my garden shed. Now I have a space to mix my fertilizers, place my tools and store equipment. June 16, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by good buy I saw some negative ads on this product in terms of quality and holes not lining up etc; the price was right and I took chances; at the end I was not disappointed; it went together but the they did not provide enough bolts that I ended up buying myself; overall it was a good buy.
