My fireplace measures 36" front width, 18" rear width and 15" depth. What size of fireplace logs do I need?
Asked by: Vegas
Hello Vegas and thanks for your question. You have a good sized fireplace. Your most common gas log size is a 24" set which would look fine in your fireplace...But you could go as big as a 30" log set if you preferred. Simple preference. I hope that helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good looking set that works well I installed this in a pre-made fireplace that was made for either wood or could be converted to gas. My gas supply was on the right side of the fireplace and the log set was on the left so i needed to add a 30" steel bendable supply line but it worked out fine. The instructions should add a picture of the battery location behind the switch which needs two screws to be removed to access. Easy to do once I found it but took some looking. The five level programmable remote is very nice and easy to use. I am very happy that I chose a set with the programmable feature. The logs do smell when first used for a few hours but that is to be expected. The trick is to follow log placement instructions and then adjust them to be sure that the flames do not hit any of the logs directly. We use it almost every day and enjoy the looks and heat. It can carry the house with the central furnace fan turned on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Insert!!! Great set of logs!! Easy to instal and looks realistic. Produces decent amount of heat and met my expectations. Only con is that I wish it included a blower... but I am still looking to add one on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst.... Worked great the first month we had it. After that, the pilot just clicks, but won't light. Long Story: We had a professional plumber (this individual does nothing but gas fireplaces) install the system from the get go. The first problem we had was a missing log from the manufacturer packaged box. 6 phone calls and 4 months later, we finally got the missing log delivered. But, by then, the fireplace was not working. We contacted customer service (again) and were told that there was a problem with the control panels on our model. We were sent a new control panel and told that it would be easy to install. Knowing better, we did not even attempt to touch or install the new control panel and called our reliable professional back out (another service fee for us...) to install this new control panel. Thirty minutes later, he finally had it in (not such an easy install after all) and low and behold, it didn't work! The unit still wouldn't light. Batteries had already been changed, twice. So, that wasn't the issue either. Also, while taking the logs out carefully, my plumber noticed that one of the logs (center log) had hairline cracks in it. I give up on this unit. I am hoping for my money back because it has been nothing but a headache!!!!!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Its nice WHEN it works Its a nice remote controlled gas log when it works, but that's the problem. The Pilot system is not reliable and as a result you will eat up a lot of batteries and waste a lot of time trying several times before you can get the pilot to stay lit and get the main burners on. The manual is not much help either.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks nice but functionally unreliable I have American Elm model AEVF18FANG purchased from Home Depot (online) and delivered 6/4/2013. I had them installed by a licensed plumber that ran the natural gas lines and verified all the pressures as part of installation process. My room air capacity calculates to 87,200 BTU while the logs are at 34,000 BTU so that seems okay. I have been running the fireplace for a month now and since the situation still exists I assume it's not a burn-in condition. Problem: When I start the fireplace (via remote) it will click, light and run properly for 16 to 18 minutes. At that point the flames go out. It will click to try and relight but does not. I let it cool down and then light again and the pattern repeats. I have opened a window to keep more fresh air coming in but same situation. I have tried the remote in different stages (thermostat driven, and remote flame) and seems to have no change. I've performed the cleaning and maintenance and no change. I didn't think it would be this as it burns fine when lit and running. Very disappointing system. Contact with customer service has been challenging. I would not buy one with a remote again nor with anything other than a manual pilot. Too much to go wrong. The few times that it has run it's been nice but unreliable and can't even get it to work anymore. Continually changing batteries which is a drag.
