When installed it looks just like the picture, has just enough logs to cover the burner. The flames look very nice. Was easy to install just had to use a tubing bender to get the right angle to make gas connection.

My 12-year-old logs thermal coupler died and to fix it I would have had to replace the pilot light and it together. That parts was around $90. To me it was not cost effective to do that for old undesirable looking logs. These logs have two burner and look much nicer than my previous set. I would recommend running the ceramic log pieces through the dish washer before use to get any chemicals off. Trust me, if you don't it stinks real bad and will set off fire alarms which is normal. In doing so, within a couple of hours the logs were scent neutral, about what my other ones were anyway. Hope this help.

Having the thermostatic control on a log set for $150 compensates for the sparseness of the logs. Sets with more elaborate logs (quantity and configuration) are considerably more expensive. The control knob is a bit vague and touchy in terms of setting a temp but also for putting back on pilot. There is no marking nor a clear "click" or lock-in position for putting back on pilot. It is very easy to go too far and turn unit off; has happened multiple times. The pilot light is pretty robust; much larger (and more heat) than other units I have owned.

It's a beautiful unit however there is a delay in ignition and I smell gas when it lights. This is a brand new unit! My gas dealer suggests I give it a day or so and if it continues to return the unit. When I ordered it online it arrived quickly but there was no warranty card nor any invoice? I hope I don't have a problem returning it without the warranty card. I am disheartened as I have to pay again to have my gas dealer come out and remove the unit then pay again to have a new unit installed. I am so discussed and may never order from Home depot again.

I was replacing a set of logs in a house recently purchased that had poor control functions. I was looking for automatic on/off function without a battery operated remote. In the past, I've had both types of controls and I prefer the simplicity of a simple rheostat control that works in conjunction with a temperature sensor connected. With the battery powered remote, I had to replace the batteries in the firebox sensor and the remote each season and also sync them back together. They were Petersen logs and a pain in the neck. The rheostat type just worked all the time with no intervention needed. I will use these logs as a backup heat source to come on if my gas furnace loses electricity. Logs are set to come on automatically if temperature reaches about 62 degrees.

The first one I ordered did not work so I was kind of worried about reordering, but I reordered another one and that one works great. We have only had it for three weeks. We haven't used it a lot because its already warm where we live, but the few times we used it were what we expected. The only drawback is there is no mark on the dial to let you know what you are turning it to, so I had to call the manufacturer and find out where it was, which is 3 o'clock. Overall it seems to work great and was a great price.

I had to bend the Pilot flame bracket to get the unit to FLAME up (start up) correctly. Before I bent the PILOT's supporting bracket (moved the pilot flame closer to the burner, from over 3/8 to just under 1/8 inch away), the unit did not start the same every time. Sometimes it took several seconds from the time the gas was turned on to when the flame ignited in a FLASH (BURST). Now it lights every time in less than a second, with NO bursts of flames.
