Customer Questions & Answers

Please let me know whether the latch can be secured with a padlock.

Asked by: JACQUELINEofALLtrades
It'd have to be a small padlock as hole diameter is small (<1/2").

what about the other side of the gate?

If this latch goes on the outside of the gate, how do you open it from the inside, to get out of your backyard? Shouldn't there be a way out as well?
Asked by: Brandy
Drill a hole and use a wire pull that is available just for this purpose.

I picked up this gate latch today, but when I installed it, I found that it only comes with 8 screws. You need 9 screws to install it. I used a spare drywall screw for mounting the striker pin since that screw is hidden by the cover plate that needs 4 screws. It works OK, but I don't think it will tolerate much gate sag before requiring the screws to be moved to a new position later. I also found that using a string or a wire attached to the latch will prevent it from easily self-latching so I removed the string and I just reach over the gate to open it from the other side.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Self-Adjusting feature makes it unsecure Quality made, but the self-adjusting feature enables it to pop open with a little jiggling of the gate. My dog figured out how to open the gate in about 30 seconds. I either need to get a more secure latch or a dumber dog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Be careful with screws when installing As reported in another review the screws are weak. The screw head on one of the screws broke off when installing, after already installing two others. This required I move the latch position and buy more screws.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gate latch This winter, the ground froze and the gate rose about 3/4". Our old gate latch had to be moved until I found this self-adjusting one. This one adjustss well, but doesn't latch if the gate is slammed(by kids). Using a thin rope for opening the pull from the inside of the gate. I am thinking it may be too heavy and the weight of the catch is not enough. Wish there was a spring to hold the latch closed. I will have to get something in place, dogs got out twice already.
