This brass handrail bracket product (which I purchased in my local Home Depot) was manufactured so poorly it doesn't function properly. The rail part of the bracket doesn't sit flush against the rail and there is a significant gap between its two screw holes and the rail surface. I am pretty sure its lousy manufacturing and not just a perception issue on my part, because the rail part has a curve that looks more like a "V" than a "U" as shown on both these online pictures and on the old brass handrail I have at home that I was replacing. If you see this part in the store, watch out for / beware that "V" shape. You can tell it doesn't work by merely sticking the two parts together and laying them against any surface without even attaching any screws to anything. Disappointing.

First, the finish comes off around the screw holes as you work with it. And worse, the cheap screw heads will literally snap off when you screw them into an oak rail. And when that happens, you can't remove the screw shaft. You have to move your holes. In my case, that oak rail cost $150 (plus 2 days of finishing) and the defect caused me to have to MOVE brackets after all the holes were pre-drilled. NOT IMPRESSED. The Stainless Steel version of this product is never in stock, but be sure to order them online instead of this garbage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Snapped Screw Heads This is a terrible product. Had 2 of 3 sets of brackets break screw heads - even with pre-drilling per the Everbilt instructions. Super cheap metal. Do yourself a favor and get better quality. Even after increasing the size of the pilot hole, i had zero confidence that they would not break again. And on the heads that didn't break, nearly every one stripped/rounded out

I do not have the strength to normally do that so all I can surmise is a defective screw. Now I am left with a piece of the screw embedded in the handrail. What should have been a 10 minute project is now a nightmare.

These were replacements for my basement handrail brackets, one of which had shorn after 27+ years of service. The holes didn't align properly but the screws were perfectly happy to create new holes for me. The finish is attractive and well done.
