Hello Curry! Thank you for your inquiry! When operation of the dehumidifier is being controlled by the humidistat (humidity sensor) the compressor stops operating when the programmed level of relative humidity is achieved. In order to sense any increase in relative humidity, and restart the compressor accordingly, the air must be sampled. To obtain the air sample the fan must operate to draw air into the unit. This is achieved by having the fan run continuously. We do hope this information is beneficial. I wish to stay away from models that the fan runs 24/7/365. Fan needs to shut off when not doing it's job.
And does the 50 pint model work the same way?
The user manual does not provide an answer to this.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by am using it in basement So far the dehumidifier is working great. It can collect water in bucket or drain out a hose. It seams quiet but our basement is for storage and laundry, not as a living space. October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice unit I bought this at the beginning of summer and boy has it take water out of the air! It's still very humid here, so it's still running. It's pretty quiet as far as these machines go too. The one thing I haven't really seen anyone say anything about is that it, as do all dehumidifiers that work the way this one does, generate a *lot* of warm air - so the room that its in is a fair bit warmer than the rest of the house. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but I thought it should be mentioned. I like that it's on wheels, since it is a substantial unit-its very easy to move around. I hope it keeps functioning this well for many years to come - time will tell. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] September 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great! Unit was easy to set up with the continuous drainage valve. Just plug in and let it do it's job. I use it in my basement which is not wet but the air is damp. This unit works perfectly on the low setting. September 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very satified Our Frigidaire dehumidifier is attractively deigned, quiet, and pulls several gallons per day from the air in our 500 sq ft apartment. We opened the box, plugged it in, and in 10 minutes water was gathering in the collection bucket. Prior to its purchase the paper in my printer was so floppy it wouldn't feed through the machine. Now the paper is crisp, the printer works fine, and the apartment no longer feels musty. August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Not Good! Purchased the 30 pint dehumidifier 10 weeks ago and already have a faulty code! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] October 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Last one lasted 5 or 6 years The last one I had lasted 5 or so years. If this one lasts as long i'll be happy. August 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Quit working in less than a month The dehumidifier worked for less than a month and then quit running and showed an F0 code. I tried it in every room and at many different outlets and it would always run for a few minutes and then stop and show the F0 code. We called and were told that we would be given a refund. We are still waiting for that to happen. We sent them the required documentation. That was a month ago. Maybe we will get a refund or maybe we will not. Only time will tell. We bought a GE and it works flawlessly! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] October 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Efficient Very efficient, quiet, does a good job in keeping the air fresh and dry in my basement. Set-up, just plug it in and you are ready to go - August 21, 2016
