Customer Questions & Answers

why don't you make a replacable hard vinyl strip?

The hard viynl strip brakes, if you put in a backing it wouldn't break so easy.
Asked by: Donfran
They don't make one and it's dumb because they break easily -- not only over time, but they crack very easily during installation.

How do I replace the sill? The hard vinyl is btoken and don't see any visible screws or nails.

Asked by: mike
Hi Mike, the removal will require the use of a crow bar to yank the old one out. The usual connection points are nails from the sides of the door frame. The crow bar will lift it of the floor and if it has been attached from the sides try cutting with either an oscillating saw using a wood/metal bit or a reciprocating saw. I'll assume that whoever installed it used construction adhesive to attach to the floor. I prefer this type of threshold to the adjustable ones but removing them can be hard.

These thresholds are a good value but there are multiple versions sold with the same part number. The various versions have different profiles of the aluminum extrusion and plastic sill plate that are not interchangeable. I know this because I bought three at the same time and they did not match. If your buying more than one check to see that they are identical before installing if you want them to match. Sill height is 1-3/16" which isn't mentioned in description. Anchoring properly requires removal of the plastic sill plate which can be difficult being they are stapled on(I used a small regular screwdriver) and is not intended by manufacturer who suggests anchoring them into the jams, which would be ugly, insufficient and noisy. Gluing them down with construction adhesive would work also

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Home Depot should not be selling this product The other negative reviews accurately describe the issues, and they have for some time. I suggest someone from Home Depot try and install this. Obviously no one from Frost King did. The similar Frost King "adjustable" (not) has the same issues. I expect more from Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Purchase Ever I already installed one for our front door & now finished installing it for the back door. Installation was pretty easy. I prefer the solid rubber on top as opposed to having wood, which gets dull or needs painting. Great product

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor design and instructions As mention in a previous review. The Vinyl is stapled into brittle wood. In addition, the other end of the vinyl is in a slot with teeth that press into the vinyl. It is fitted far too tightly to be taken out and the vinyl is too hard. This leaves you with no way to hide any screws. The short instructions mention removing the vinyl which is simply not possible. Clearly the instructions were never tested and most likely written from drawings. Home Depot should drop this product. I will be returning mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked out well, although it had to be modified The product was a great start--I had an unusual entry and had to match up some dissimilar surfaces. By trimming the width and adding a couple of different extrusions I was able to achieve a custom threshold. Couldn't have done it without this piece.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does it's job It does its job. I was just a bit disappointed that the plastic already had a scratch when I unpacked it and that the instructions referred to "mounting screws (not included)". I'm not sure how quickly more scratches may appear when it is really in use. But other than that, the aluminum part was fine.
