The surround is OK, although aesthetically not as pleasing as the frame for the previous models. The problem we encountered was with the installation directions. The instructions have you measure the center of the interior of the cabinet floor and transfer it to the cabinet frame. They assume that the interior measurements of the cabinet are centered with the cabinet opening. Our cabinet was not, and the 1/4 inch difference made installation very tight and difficult.
We suggest that you find the center of the cabinet opening, and transfer that opening to the bottom of the cabinet with a line (regardless of whether it is centered horizontally within the cabinet). Then use the template to determine the correct placement of the slot that anchors the back of the microwave. The rest of the instructions can be followed as given.
This plastic and metal framing cost 75% as much as the microwave. Hardly a bargain, but necessary to complete the built-in look of the appliance, which is why we rate it so low in value.

I have old GE Monogram model made in 9/91, discontinued and expensive to repair, bought this trim kits for above model, need some trimming work for the cabinet to install the microwave, come out nice, but what did not mention in this product is height claim 19.125 inches that is the middle tallest part of the frame. It is little rounded on the top part of the frame, so the both side of the frame definitely less than 19.125. I would recommend GE give precise dimension for the product, so buyers have better idea what they are dealing with.

I had a GE microwave with the JX2127 trim kit. The microwave broke, so I replaced it with a model PEB7226DFWW. Both Home Depot and GE told me that my old trim kit would not work with the new microwave, I had to get this JX7227DFWW trim kit. Turns out the old trim kit works fine, all the screw holes line up. I never opened the JX7227DFWW so I don't know what the difference is if any. See if you can reuse your old kit before buying this one.

I had difficulty getting the door to fully open after installing the trim per the instructions but was able to adjust the mounting plate and move the microwave forward about 1/8" and it worked fine. This replaced an existing GE microwave installed by the builder eight years ago.
