Yes it can. The trim kit is just that - for framing (trimming) around the microwave.

Hi Lu, My first inclination is NO, but if you want to hard wire it, you could cut the cord and wire the microwave in a jam box. But I have a question for you - WHY would you want to do this? If you hard wire it, you won't be able to move it further than the length of the cord! I installed ours in a wall cabinet and plugged it into an outlet inside the cabinet. If you hard wire it, you won't be able to move it further than the length of the cord! I installed ours in a wall cabinet and plugged it into an outlet inside the cabinet. Two weeks after it was installed we decided to install double ovens in that space so all I had to do was slide it out, unplug it and then reinstall it in our pantry. It's so much easier to just plug it in! Read Less

This product will fit with the old trim kit provided there is a little leeway as the two products aren't an exact match, but specifications are very similar.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Replacement Built-in Microwave We bought this microwave to replace the original GE Profile unit that was built-in when our house was built 10 years ago. This one fit right into the space that the old one did, requiring only that we replace the trim kit because of the slight size difference. Installation was a breeze since I had to do it myself when it arrived. It works great, just like our old one did. My only complaint is that the plastic trim is gray instead of black like the old one, and the "GE Profile" emblem is gone, replaced by a raised GE medalion. That causes it to not match exactly with the built-in GE Profile oven directly below it, but it is close enough not to matter. September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk This microwave lasted about a year and a half before it started making weird noises, and would not turn all the way off. Have to leave the door open when not in use. Purchased from Home Depot and their response is "Don't know what to tell ya'." Called GE and they don't have a repair service in my area. Referred me to a third party service, which I could have found on my own. Just unbelievable! August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First weeks operation meets all needs in a single family residence Replaces an older GE unit that failed; upgrade to Profile series. Suggest ordering the GE factory trim kit vs. tying for a retrofit of existing install because the dimensions are off enough to give one headaches. August 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't buy it Literally stopped working a week after the one year limited warranty. We are supposed to have the extra year warranty since we purchased the whole suite during the GE Great American Kitchen Event, but GE says they can't honor it because they "cannot find the paperwork in their records." We won't be buying GE again. July 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Still new, but so far we like it. Hope this out lasts the Panasonic we bought at Home Depot 14 mo. is all it lasted. July 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Very disappointed in this microwave We purchased this microwave to replace our original that had lasted almost 10 years. The control panel failed when the unit was only 5 weeks old. Rather than replace the microwave, GE sent a technician out to replace the control panel (it took two trips). Since then, the oven has stopped spinning while cooking and now the door won't open and it is no longer usable. We are very disappointed. July 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product, great price, great delivery. Purchased to replace a previous GE Profile model not longer offered. Did not purchased the installation wall mount kit. Stainless color is slightly different from older model and trim kit but no longer bothers me after a month of use. Free delivery a bonus. Arrived on time, polite employees, unpacked, verified it worked, took the old unit and offered to take the box trash. Did not install it in the wall with our extisting trim kit but that's not advertised as part of the delivery service either. Old trim kit fit well with no extra hardware. No surprises with purchase, delivery or installation - my favority kind of purchase.. April 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Dead after 1 year and 1 month Installed with new construction home. Normal use by single occupant. Dead 1 month after warranty expiration. June 25, 2016
