How long are these replacement filters supposed to last? That is a very subjective question. It would depend on use. In our case we have three adults and our first filter only lasted 4 months. I was supprised it only lasted that long for us under what I consider fairly light use. The fiter replacement light comes on wlth our model when time to change the filter.

Hello Chiefsfan313 - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.
When there is no filter replacement indicator light, we recommend a filter change every six months, or if the flow of water to the water dispenser or icemaker decreases, whichever comes first.
I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Yes. Your refrigerator should have come with a valve cover (cheap plastic part) to bypass the filter.

Answer:
Yes it can. You remove the old filter and insert the bypass cap that came with your refridgerator. The owners manual for the refridgerator should specify how to do this.

Refrigerator Water Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 868.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from #rd One Every three months OR less this filter will S L O W down to almost a drizzle.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sadly disappointed We have had our GE refrigerator for almost 2 years and it is serving us well. We are disappointed in the service life of our most recent filter. Within 6 weeks of putting in a new filter, we are seeing signs that we need to change it ALREADY. The water pressure is decreasing and the ice cubes are smaller. We have a whole house water filter, so this filter is not the original point of filtration. It is the 2nd point of filtration. So, one would think the refrigerator filter would last longer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Variable Quality - Worthless "Warranty" You never know how long these filters will last before the flow decreases to a trickle. If you don't install the filter immediately, the 30 day warranty is useless. At $40-50 a pop, that's a problem. As someone who has owned a GE refrigerator for many years, it's the filter performance that changes, not the water or my refrigerator. Last change, I got a dud. Was useless after a month. What's most frustrating is that the one it replaced still had good flow, but it had been on for 6 months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money I had not been using the water dispenser & ice from the fridge because I was distilling my water to get rid of chlorine. After researching this filter, I found that it filters out most of the chlorine. I am so happy to be able to use the dispenser now. Yes, it is a little costly but my health is worth it. I wrote the date in Sharpie on the bottom to help remember to replace it. No picture. It looks just like the picture in the HD ad.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Water filter I'm not happy with this filter. I think it might be defective because the water taste terrible. I thought it might just need to take a few weeks to break in, but this has not been the case. You tell the difference in the water taste. Anyway thanks for asking and now you have it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average, nothing spectacular I bought this thinking that it was really going to clean the water very well however it really did not do a spectacular job. The Taste was the same and I was kind of disappointed to have spent so much money on a 3 pack and it really did not taste as good as bottled water.
Date published: 2016-09-30
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Water Filter for Fridge The filter is great, but after using for a month or so it does not get continous stream of water. After about 10 oz. discharge from my GE fridge water dispenser the water stops and I have to wait a few minutes to get the water again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So now i don't even get water from my fridge I bought the filter thinking all i had to do was replace the old with the new and that's it. Wrong! Now with the new filter i get no water....the filter constantly freezes, even on the lowest temperature...waste of money...thanks GE!
