I hope someone at GE sees this and answers! Since it had been 6 months since I changed the filter and i had an extra (genuine GE part) on the shelf, I put it in. Now when I try to fill a glass of water it growls for a few seconds then the flow is MUCH slower than the one I replaced. Frig is a side by side model GSH25JSTCSS and I am using MWFA filters. I see that some are just MWF or MWFP. Are they all the same? Since they are so darn expensive I hate to replace one I JUST opened 2 days ago!

Liz, just saw your last entry...2 Gallons of water is a lot of water :-) Like 32 cups or 256 ounces. I just let it run for 1 or 2 eight-oz cups and I'm done with it :-)

Everyone says replace the filter when the water flow decreases. What does that even mean? I have had my filter for 13 months and it's still flowing fine. I started to notice more white powder in the water though? What does that mean? Will a new filter fix that?

Do you have a yellow light that should come on when you need a new filter?

Refrigerator Water Filter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 1135.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Where can I recycle my old filter? Filter was easy enough to replace but have found it difficult to find a resource to properly dispose of or recycle my old filter. Online searches suggest GE supports recycling but I have yet to find a resource where I can mail or drop off my old filter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bummer! My water stopped working! I installed this filter...didn't run the water through right away and when I tried to do it the next day, the water in my fridge didn't work at all! I tightened it, I loosened it, I took it out and put it back in...nothing worked! Unfortunately I threw away the old filter so, I can't tell if it is the new one for sure or not~! I haven't had any problems in the past.....this is a lot of $$ for my whole water system to be out of order now~!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter!!! I've been using these filters for over ten years now. From well water to city water. Have had nothing but great results always clear and odor free water. Using them on well water, I could only get about 3 months out of them. On city water, I replace them yearly. I can say though, after a year on city water I took the old filter off and looked into it and it looked like mud. I am so thankful that I don't drink that "funky water" any more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GE MWF Filters Not lasting I have had to purchase a new GE MWF filter every 2 months. It will end up costing me more in filters over a couple years than the cost of the refrigerator. Very misleading advertising that they last up to 6 months. We are a three person family with regular water usage and have never had one last over 3 months. At 2 months, the water begins to come out so slowly that you are forced to buy another one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stinks There was nothing wrong with our new refrigerator until we changed the water filter. Now there is an awful smell all the time in the ice and the water. We cleaned the refrigerator out with baking soda even though there was no need and still...after making sure it was properly installed and another new filter...and it stinks. We are not happy with it at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job! Have had the system for over a year and I replace the filter every three months. I am on a renewal program so I do not have to be concerned about when to replace. It is perfect for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from MWF Good, but s bi pricey after they started making thousands, millions...for the time it lasts before flow lessens and the change filter light comes on.
