Hello, My GE Refrigerator takes the RPWFE filter. Does it also need the larger MWF filter? Thanks Laurie
Asked by: Laurie
Hello Laurie, This is Joyce from GE Appliances. I will be happy to help! If your refrigerator takes the RPWFE filter the MWF filter would not work in your model. On bottom freezer refrigerators that use the RPWFE water filter, the unit uses radio frequency identification (RFID) to detect leaks and monitor the filter status. When the Replace Water Filter indicator appears, a new filter or the bypass plug must be installed for water to be dispensed. The RFID will then automatically reset the Replace Water Filter when a new RFID filter or the bypass plug is installed. The water filter cartridge is located inside the cartridge holder in the upper left corner of the fresh food compartment. Thanks so much for checking with us. Have a good day!

Everyone says replace the filter when the water flow decreases. What does that even mean? I have had my filter for 13 months and it's still flowing fine. I started to notice more white powder in the water though? What does that mean? Will a new filter fix that?
Asked by: Johnny
If the filter is not replaced it can start to affect the ice maker. Depending on the amount of usage and water in your area, the filter can become clogged, hence the flow will become low.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Sadly disappointed We have had our GE refrigerator for almost 2 years and it is serving us well. We are disappointed in the service life of our most recent filter. Within 6 weeks of putting in a new filter, we are seeing signs that we need to change it ALREADY. The water pressure is decreasing and the ice cubes are smaller. We have a whole house water filter, so this filter is not the original point of filtration. It is the 2nd point of filtration. So, one would think the refrigerator filter would last longer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Variable Quality - Worthless "Warranty" You never know how long these filters will last before the flow decreases to a trickle. If you don't install the filter immediately, the 30 day warranty is useless. At $40-50 a pop, that's a problem. As someone who has owned a GE refrigerator for many years, it's the filter performance that changes, not the water or my refrigerator. Last change, I got a dud. Was useless after a month. What's most frustrating is that the one it replaced still had good flow, but it had been on for 6 months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter!!! I've been using these filters for over ten years now. From well water to city water. Have had nothing but great results always clear and odor free water. Using them on well water, I could only get about 3 months out of them. On city water, I replace them yearly. I can say though, after a year on city water I took the old filter off and looked into it and it looked like mud. I am so thankful that I don't drink that "funky water" any more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from GE MWF Filters Not lasting I have had to purchase a new GE MWF filter every 2 months. It will end up costing me more in filters over a couple years than the cost of the refrigerator. Very misleading advertising that they last up to 6 months. We are a three person family with regular water usage and have never had one last over 3 months. At 2 months, the water begins to come out so slowly that you are forced to buy another one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Water filter I'm not happy with this filter. I think it might be defective because the water taste terrible. I thought it might just need to take a few weeks to break in, but this has not been the case. You tell the difference in the water taste. Anyway thanks for asking and now you have it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Average, nothing spectacular I bought this thinking that it was really going to clean the water very well however it really did not do a spectacular job. The Taste was the same and I was kind of disappointed to have spent so much money on a 3 pack and it really did not taste as good as bottled water.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Water Filter for Fridge The filter is great, but after using for a month or so it does not get continous stream of water. After about 10 oz. discharge from my GE fridge water dispenser the water stops and I have to wait a few minutes to get the water again.
