Agitation cycle

Just started using this machine yesterday. During wash cycle- agitation sounds strange. It just sounds like it is going back and forth, almost like a loud side to side sound. Like a gear that's stuck..,Doesn't sound like my old machine. Clothes seem clean... ?
Asked by: Holland
Hello Holland - Congratulations on your new washer and dryer combination unit. This is Nancy at GE and I'm happy to help you. In the back of the Owner's Manual you will notice a section describing the washer sounds. It states that if you hear a back and forth swoosh or light "clicking" sound during agitation, this is most likely the cause of the electric motor reversing direction and is normal. This washer has a drive system that does not use gears. This sound is the motor rotating back and forth to agitate the laundry. I hope this information is helpful! Thanks for checking with us!

The washer / dryer came with the place and were brand new. Three months later we notice the washing machine was not filling up properly. It doesn't complete the cycle and water level is low, never completely fills up. If you like your clothes wet but not clean, then buy this piece of garbage. I have searched other reviews, everyone is saying the same thing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty much what I expected I bought this model because it has the largest washer capacity of all of the stacked units. It doesn't look any larger, but the tub is actually quite a bit deeper, which is great. Another review mentioned that the tub does not fill all the way to the top, and that is true, even when set for an extra large load. However, knowing that, you just don't cram the washer to the top with clothes, it still holds more than my old unit. Only thing I wish it had is lights. No light in dryer or over washer, and since my unit is in my garage, it was nice to not have to turn on the garage lights to do laundry, but not a big deal. VERY quiet, almost a problem, because my old unit made so much noise when spin drying I always knew when a load was done. Now I have to remember to go check :) Only had it for a day, but so far so good, and anything is an improvement over my 25 year old previous unit. Will update review if anything changes.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality, Worse Customer Service My unit broke 2 months after purchasing it. What was worse is that the GE customer service repair scheduled a warranty call and cancelled on me not once or twice but three times. At the time of me writing this I still can't use my machine. GE actually asked me to call a repair guy out of the yellow pages and pay for it myself and they would reimburse me the cost. Too freaking funny. This unit may just be a lemon and I get that but don't expect any help from them should this happen to you. Buy another machine!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed with my purchase I purchased this unit on Mar 12 2012, I even agreed to purchase the Extended warranty. This unit were purchased for washing towels in my salon; the same towels I washed at home a few months earlier and my is still working fine. Last week the washer would not works; it just idle and the lights are flashing. I contacted Home Depot and was told to contact the Manufacturer for any issue in the first year. I called GE and explain to them what my washer and dryer are doing (or rather NOT doing), they sent a Tech to my location. He did something and got the washer working again but today the same thing happen. They are sending the Tech again tomorrow. I hope they can fixed it!!! Did I make a mistake purchasing this unit? I hope not.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Economic for sure! So i purchased this item early May and i have to say its much more efficient than my old kenmore unit. It is on the small side, so i have to get used to that. The water is also on the low side....i set it to extra load and it didn't quite fill up to the top and some of my clothes were not submerged in water. Overall, it was worth the money....i just hope it lasts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Damages Clothes - Abysmal Customer Service The first time I dried clothes in this unit, it shredded and stretched some articles of clothing. I called GE to find out what could be done and they sent a repair guy out. He said that the issue is common and is due to a design flaw with the dryer. His recommended solution was to dry everything on the delicate cycle. This was unacceptable to me so I called GE to request that they take the unit back. To make a very long and extremely painful and time-consuming story short, GE's customer service disputed what the repair person said (even though it was a GE repair person), told me that the unit was operating as designed, and refused to take the unit back. I can with 100% certainty say that GE has the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. Not only will I never again purchase a GE appliance, I will not purchase anything with the GE logo. I would strongly advise any potential customer to purchase another brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wrecks clothes and broke after 18 months! I HATE this machine and deeply regret buying it. While I went with the overall good average rating, I should have paid more attention to a number of previous poor reviews that mention a design flaw that causes it to destroy clothes: it twists off buttons and hooks and straps. Just past the year warranty, it started rotating wildly and spin performance became erratic, and a few months later, the washer tub actually broke off the hoses (burning rubber smell etc.). The repair man pointed out the poor design of this machine, which he says uses over-twisting to save water, and told me that GE actually outsources this model to some other company, and he wishes Home Depot didn't sell it because people hate it. I have other good experiences with Home Depot appliances, but on this one, I am a VERY UNHAPPY CAMPER!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice unit, very quiet. Have had it for 3 weeks, so far so good. Just hoping it last much longer than it predecessor, a Fridigare unit that only lasted 16 months. I was told by serviceman it would cost more to repair it than to by a new one.
