Rated 4 out of 5Â by JimCedarMill It finally works, but it wasn't easy
Based on Amazon and TheHomeDepot reviews of various washer makes, Generac seemed like a good bet. In both cases these must be bought on-line. Amazon buyers seemed to have issues getting warranty service and were having bad shipping experiences which I didn't think I'd have purchasing thru TheHomeDepot (THD). However this hasn't been a perfect experience.
The THD dock helpers loaded the box in the back of my SUV but put it in on its side. By the time I got home (4mi) a lot of oil leaked out all over the machine and box. It was a mess. I also found that the box didn't have a pressure hose. A Generac partner sent the hose for free but that took another 3 weeks. After THD's 30 day return window had passed I was able to start up the machine.
I ran the machine about 5hrs cleaning patio concrete and was having constant problems with the washer suddenly shutting off. It wouldn't run more than 10min w/o abruptly shutting down. I called Generac support and was told to take it to a service center, in my case a 70mi / 3hr round-trip from PDX OR. The service guy said he'd seen several of these new machines this year (2014) for the same issue. Problem is the engine can't drive the pump head at full pressure, and the fix is to back off the pressure a turn or less from full. It was obvious to the ear how the engine smoothed out when doing so. Funny that Generac telephone support didn't suggest this.
A couple important things to note: You want to purchase and use pump-saver (goes into water inlet) to prolong the pump lifetime, special oils for the pump and engine (Briggs & Straton make all these; pump and engine oils are NOT the same) and use fuel stabilizer in the gas if it stays in the machine >30 days. Engine oil should be changed in first few hours of use, and then every 40 hrs max (50 is too long) or every season, whichever comes first; pump oil every season.
Using the machine was a breeze. The wand is easy to hold and use. Fold-down handle allows it to fit in the SUV w/o drama. Hose is a good length. Good tip assortment. 3000 PSI and flow rate made cleaning speed faster than the cheaper machines while not as tiring as the 4000 PSI rental units.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by Senior If only it had started
Can't recommend this product because I never got it started. Went together OK, but when it was time to start it up, it was a no go. Could not even get a spark from it. Maybe if it started it would have gotten better ratings.

Pressure washer came quickly and was well packed. Assembly was easy. I've had no problems with it so far.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by King Great washer, but ...
Great washer. Easy to assemble, start, and operate. I had no problem restarting after releasing the pressure in the pump. Powerful; works really well. Only con is that its rather bulky/heavy compared to other washers with similar specs. I'd still recommend it, though.
Two reasons for the 3-star review, and both have to do with my specific unit. First, mine shipped without a high-pressure hose. Generac customer service agreed to send me a replacement, but it's back-ordered. I ordered the unit in mid-june, but won't get the hose until mid-august. I had to buy a replacement hose to test the unit, and I'll return it after receiving the stock unit. Second, the quick-connect adapter (spring-loaded, female part) at the end of my wand has a ding/burr that prevents it from catching unless/until you manually force it down. I lost two tips before I figured this out -- one landed on my roof and the other landed somewhere in the yard (will probably hit it next time I mow ...). Good unit apart from these two annoyances.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by NickBC Pressure washer never started. No tech support from Generac. Machine refunded.
Item DOA. Unpacked item. Followed instructions for cold start. (I have used p/washers before and are experienced). Check oil, pump oil, gas etc. After 2 hours of no start called Generac tech support and communicated with a non tech person who was reading from the owners manual. Requested higher level of real tech support and was instructed to either take machine to service center or take back for refund. Was also told by non tech person from Generac that the no-start problem was not uncommon ???. I called the service center that I was given by Generac tech support for my area. The service center told me they don't repair/service Generac equipment because of too many problems. I phoned tech support back and requested another authorized service center in my area. Was told to bring the machine in and that they do not know how long it will be there. Service manager told me they are not really interested in repairing Generac equipment. Took the pressure washer back for refund. HomeDepot customer service was excellent and did the usual no squabble refund. I have now bought a BE 196cc Honda GX200 |Model: B2565HG) pressure washer and confirmed that I can get local support in Vancouver BC.
