Customer Questions & Answers

How much can you shim up the toilet base to make it level if you have a uneven floor?

Asked by: Anonymous
To answer this question it would be necessary to know much shimming are we talking about. If we're talking about 1/4 to 1/2 inch that's one thing..... more than that may require reworking the floor to correct the problem. 'Floor leveler' can be mixed and pored in place to correct many minor problems. Building a wood frame around where the toilet will be place and then poring floor leveler flush to the rime of the flange will give you a level area to place the toilet on. More that 1/4 to 1/2 inch may be more involved and need rebuilding the floor itself. In a few cases I have been able to cut a plywood 'template' of the bottom of the toilet, where it touches the floor and attached that using wood shims and caulking to fill the gaps between the floor and the template. Note that it many be necessary to use a flange extension as well if raising to toilet any great amount in the process of leveling.

is this toilet comfort height 16.5 in at bowl

Model # N2428RB/N2428T Store SKU # 340995
Asked by: Anonymous
Standard bowels run about 14 inches (about 15 -15.5 inches with seat). High-rise or 'handy-cap' toilets (Now often referred to as 'comfort' toilets) run about 16.5 inches the seat, so a total of about 17.5 - 18 inches ... normal chair height. If you need a higher seat then a wall mount bowel that can be set at any height might be an alternative, but that would also require some major changes in existing plumbing as well. A less expensive way to get greater height would be to build a platform to rest the toilet on.

Can I leave in the old wax and put the new wax on top in order to make a better seal or should I remove the old wax?

Asked by: Anonymous
No. Clean the old one out so the new one can seal tight.

2-piece 1.28 GPF High Efficiency Single Flush Round Toilet in White is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 753.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the trick. The 5 stars goes mainly to the online purchase experience. Everything was pulled & ready on a Sunday afternoon in just a few hours (thankfully because this wasn't the plan I had for the afternoon). The toilet itself was one of the cheapest so obviously it can't be 5 stars but it definitely does the trick. I'm not crazy about the high seat, nor am I a squatter but my main toilet at 15" works best for me. I was asked to submit a pic of the product in action but I'll save myself the embarrassment & just show the installed product. Our tiled floor was uneven & I used a few nickels for shims, figured they wouldn't rot away. Hope this helps.

Our other bathroom has a Glacier Bay toilet (similar to this model) that we had installed years ago, absolutely no problems or complaints. With both toilet installations we did replace the floor gasket & wax ring as well, as we expected the old ones could end up causing a future problem - it is worth it to spend a few dollars now to prevent a future problem with the wax ring or gasket later. Easy husband installed these toilets himself without a problem. Very happy with this brand.

The seat has already been broken (2 adult women using it.) I have to replace it. The people who said you have to hold the handle down longer just to flush, and then it does not remove all of the paper, and the bowl does not fill up like other toilets I have are correct. I did not select this toilet the lousy contractor I paid bought it. It is the cheapest one at Home Depot. I have been told not to use Glacier Bay by other plumbers. Like I said I did not know that was the brand my contractor purchased. Why take the time and resources to build an inferior product that some people have to replace? Home Depot should be more careful whose products they sell. Love Home Depot though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It works You get what you pay for. The seat is really cheap plastic. The water does not wash the front of the bowl. The handle feels like it will come off, and you have to hold it down until the bowl begins to empty before it will continue to flush.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Value Toilet Pros: Very good price especially after rebate. Easy to install Cons: Flimsy toilet seat: it flexs and move side to side. It pinch my thigh while sitting and shifting. About 2" taller than my old American Standard. <--this is very important to most folks but I did not know because this is my first toilet replacement. Buyer should plan to buy new hose since the existing hose will be 2" shorter. Overall for the price, it is reasonable if you are on absolute budget. Else I would look for better one just for $20 more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great toilet I almost didn't buy this toilet because some of the negative reviews said it had a weak flush and didn't have water swishing down the front end. All lies. Why do people write lies? They almost cost me hundreds of dollars for a more expensive toliet. Anyway. Nice height All around. Wide bowl. Strong flush. And great price. I had someone else install. Total cost with install and pick up under 200.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not so great the guy who installed it seemed to have no trouble -- it is the way this functions that is such a disappointment. For a child's bath, it should be fine. But for adults, not so great. The flush is not as complete as it should be. The difference is clear to us since we have Delta 1.28 toilets at our cabin and they work just great. No need to use a brush after flushing. It is worth the extra $30.
