Overall I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. I was nervous at first because I had read reviews of other brands of playsets and I was worried that the wood would be cheaper type of cedar. After reading numerous reviews about the gorilla sets, I felt confident this would be a great purchase perfect for my kids.
When I ordered the set, I hoped/ really wanted it delivered before memorial weekend. The delivery window actually covered before and after the weekend. The set was actually delivered a few days before the delivery window started, so I had everything actually a week before my "construction" weekend.
Be sure you have a good amount of room to spread out the parts because it is an understatement to say there are a lot of parts. Right away I noticed opening the boxes that the wood is definitely cedar (the smell was amazing) and all the wood pieces were in perfect shape. Not a single board was chipped, dented, or distorted. You will also notice that this is a very high quality cedar, very strong, great color, and not the cheap imported cedar that comes with the really cheap sets you can buy at other retailers.
The build: Like other sets that say it will take you about 16-20 hours they are not kidding. My father -in law and I are pretty experienced craftsmen, but there are a lot of features and parts that take a bit of time to construct, plus we had occasional rain showers that delayed us a couple hours a couple of the days.
Placement: Luckily the area that we placed the play set is flat, as I can only imagine how much longer it would have taken if we would have had to grade the ground/flatten it. This playset is incredibly sturdy and heavy, so be sure you measure and know exactly how your layout will be before you build. You will see I have a hill in my back yard so we had to be sure everything was in the right spot to avoid any digging.
A few suggestions when building this: the instructions do not mention it, but you will need an extension ladder or one that is capable in getting you at least 10-12ft in the air. When it comes time to put the roof boards on the structure...you definitely need to have the height to be able to screw in the boards. You will be amazed as you start to get the structure built; how incredibly strong it is. I was worried at first that I would need bolts/stakes to anchor to the ground. Basically; if the wind is strong enough to blow this playset down, then you most likely are going to lose your house too.
Some Ways to save time before you build... do a quick read through of the instructions before your build, then when building have a 3rd person to pull the parts or boards for the next step while others are working.
Now that the set has been built, my daughter and neighbor kids love it and there are tons of activities for them on here... from slides, to swings, to the 2 fort structures, to the bottom areas for sand boxes. No worries about bored kids for a long time. I did order a bucket swing for little kids separately and that also had very quick delivery.
The only negative comments I would say about my purchase is that I was missing 2 boards that were needed to attach the tube slide. I contacted Gorilla customer service center and they immediately were more than happy to send me the replacement boards (came about 3 days later -very fast). I wouldn't give them a bad review for that because you get 12 huge boxes that are full of parts at delivery and I can definitely see how a part could get missed when a warehouse packs the boxes.
If you are looking for a set that has tons of features, and is made of very high quality materials, order this set. You will not regret it. Definitely worth the time and money once you see the kids reactions and fun when using the set.
