I currently have a 1800 watt system with one 12 volt battery and two folding 40 watt monocrystalline panels connected to deliver 80 watts to the charging system.

Answer: 
As long as your charge controller is capable of handling the extra power then you only need to replace the panels. Otherwise, you will need to purchase and install a new charge controller. Preferably a MPPT type or if that is out of your price range the next best would be a PWM type. But most important is that it can handle the Amperage / Watts you are sending to it from the panels.

My 105 watt panel put out around 28 volts. When I combined my three panels in the same combiner box, I was still only getting 28 volts out to the charge controller. I decided to disconnect the 105 watt panel and I discovered my voltage out to the charge controller increased from 28 volts around 98, 99 volts.
It was my belief at that point, that your system, if combined anyway, will use the voltage of the lowest wattage panels. I am still not using the 105 watt panel until I can figure out how to use it in conjunction with my existing system without losing voltage. Read Less

You need to make sure your charge controller can handle the additional amps. If not you could burn it out or at the least blow a fuse.

I have seen solar panels used with a Buck/Boost Converter and then an inverter. This eliminates the needs for a battery and a battery charger/controller. (A Buck/Boost Converter is designed and configured to raise or lower DC voltages, as required, to output a particular DC voltage, which would be 12 volts in this case.)

Hi Dave, I might be slightly confused at the question so let me try to answer this way. The 105 watt Monocrystalline solar panel could be used with a charge controller which in turn regulates the charging of your battery or battery bank.
You can also use this solar panel directly with a Grid Tied Inverter and bypass batteries all together. The grid tied inverter uses the power fed to it from your solar panel(s), and feeds the power through the grid tied inverter at a slightly higher voltage than 110, which in turns feeds that power into your grid or power company power. Grid tied inverter are different than the AC/DC inverters. AC/DC inverters are generally used with charge controllers and battery banks, -or- or wired directly to a vehicles battery to run some 110 volt appliance from a vehicle.

With today's technology the differences in efficiency are negligible. That being said I have heard that the Monocrystaline are slightly more efficient than Polycrystaline.

This is not UL listed because it is only designed for off-grid applications such as RVs, boats and cabins. If you need a panel for a grid-tied system, check the Grape Solar 190W, 235W, 250W, 280W, etc.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Happy with my purchase I bought four of these for my camper so that I could boon dock for extended off-grid camping. These four panels were enough to cover my daily use on a sunny day. I found that these were not enough on a overcast day that was fairly bright, but estimated that they would if I had two more panels. So I bought two more and they can fully recharge my batteries on all but dark overcast and rainy days. I live in the Northeast and find that I need 1.5 Amp Hours of Battery Capacity for every watt of panel. You would need perhaps 1 Amp Hour per watt if you lived in the sunny western US. My panels are mounted flat. I get about 5 amps out of them maximum so far. This is at the Spring Equinox with 12 hours of daylight. Perhaps if they were angled more towards the Sun, you could get the rated 8 amps. The build quality is good. I did notice the panels were slightly different on my second order. I would have preferred that all the panels look identical. The diamond shape separators were smaller in the second batch. I used mounting brackets made by Renolgy that I purchased on Amazon. I was not happy with those. I recommend a mount that allows tilting. If I could fit more of these on the roof of my camper I would. It is better to have too much power and not use it than not enough. A good charge controller will adjust the charging to match your batteries. April 4, 2014

I have purchased 100 Watt modules from Grape Solar in the past, but they no longer make the ones I purchased. The 105 Watt module has slightly higher current output, but not enough that i can't place it in series with the 100 Watt modules. Quality seems good, comparable to other modules I have used. Says it is American made, but I suspect the cells are made in China. No instructions with it, but it is plug n play. August 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic Deal Only 1 draw back to this panel is the power wires are too short. Luckily HD sells 12 guage lamp wife cheap. Used this panel on a 2 week "dry" camping trip. The first week it rained everyday most of the day and was overcast for most of the 2 weeks. We stayed inside the trailer a lot and used the lights almost constantly and our lantern broke so we had to use the outside too. We never started the generator one and our lights never got dimmer. This was the best investment I've made since buying the trailer. August 5, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Best deal, need special connector It may be the same for all solar panels but this one needs another MC4 cable as a recommended purchase (unless you want to just cut the MC4 connectors off the outputs of this for bare wire, but then one can't wire it in series with other panels as conveniently in future). So you can JUST BUY a single EXTENSION CABLE and CUT IN HALF for BARE ENDS. Otherwise it is hard to get a good connection since the metal is enclosed in the plastic MC4 connector. August 15, 2014

Panels are 36% smaller, put out 64% more power, and cost 50% of price paid for old ones. They are built well and have a good warranty. I called customer support and received good technical assistance and pleasant, prompt support. I had to purchase MC4 connectors separately (not sold through Home Depot). I set this panel flat down on the camper roof. I get full sun all day long . I am using the 10 amp charge controller with a everstart deep cycle 101 amp battery. I am very pleased with the power i have from this panel. I will be buying one more and adding a extra battery , but for what this cost its working better than i hoped. I am no solar expert but am very happy so far. I get around 15.5 to 16 volts in full sunlight. during cloudy days i still get around 13.2 to 14 volts. thats enough to keep my battery charged . my wattage draw is (laptop 75, two fans 20, cell phone 8) low but it keeps up very well. adding another battery and panel will make it so i can stay longer with out shore power. would suggest this product to anyone. the add should mention you will need the extension cords , had to re order them after i got the panel.
