Can I put more than one of these together?

I have a 24 ft space on the back of my garage. Would I be able to join 3 of these together?
Asked by: ndkmk
Yes, they are made for adding more forming length as well as height.

Is the wood treated with anything?

Just wondering if it is just cedar, or cedar with any stain, or other wood treatments applied.

what type of lining would you use for the inside of planter box being build

Asked by: doedoe
This Cedar is probably made mostly of 'sapwood', not 'heartwood'. Its life expectancy will be short when exposed to moisture and insects, EVEN though it is Cedar. For best extended life, use a 6 mil clear or black plastic (black is easier to see damage to it = holes, cuts, etc) on the inside between the wood and the dirt, and make it fold underneath the wood to minimize contact with damp dirt. The plastic that is covered by dirt will last for many, many years, but the portion exposed to sunlight will breakdown within a year or two. What I do to make it last longer, is to put a small strip of cedar, redwood, or pine (minimum of 3" high) along the inside top edge screwed onto the main boards. This sandwiches the plastic sheet between both boards and protects it from sunlight. The dirt must cover the bottom of this strip of wood to protect the sheeting from UV rays. This strip will be the only thing that will need to be replaced every so many years. This has worked for me for many years. Raised bed panels/boards that were not protected (redwood) rotted on the inside where sapwood existed at an alarming rate, but the later ones that I protected with plastic looked new on the inside when I replace the plastic, AFTER many years of service. I had to replace the plastic because the top was not protected from UV rays, HENCE, I now install a protective layer of wood or garden edging, using either stainless steel screws or HOT Dipped Galvanized ones. I am getting ready to make some large raised beds, and this is the economical method I will use on most, but on some, I will use the method described below. Another liner that is much more durable, but more expensive, which I have also used is PVC Pond Liners and I cut them into strips to cover the whole inside and underneath of the bottom boards. Still use the strip on the top to hold the liner tight, but I am not worried about the UV deterioration or accidental damage with the gardening tools, since this liner is much thicker and stronger. Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good! I just recieved my raised garden bed today. It was pretty easy to assemble, only took me about 15 minutes. There was only one board that was warped, otherwise it looks like a nice product. I can't wait to fill it up!

Had fun putting this together with my 6-year old, really easy to do, fast, and it looks great. It all just pops together. We got the Critterguards to go with it and draped some netting over the top to keep out birds and (maybe) deer. I am really happy with the results and get compliments from everyone who sees it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It was great while it lasted We purchased several of these kits in Spring 2014 to assemble a raised bed vegetable garden. Assembly was easy and it looked great the first year (2014). It looked pretty ok in 2015, but now it's March 2016 and the entire thing is falling apart. The dovetail parts that inserts into the end posts have rotted away, so the sides are pulling out of the posts and spilling dirt all over my yard. We will have to tear down the entire garden and rebuild it using better materials. We had hoped that this product would last longer than 24 months, considering the cost. Now we will have to spent more time and money to replace it - very disappointing performance.

The assembly was very easy, and the outcome looks so beautiful, but is also so functional. The beauty of this system is that you can build it taller with additional systems either immediately or in years to come. It looks great(it is all cedar), functions beautifully, and allows you to get it to the height you need simply by adding additional kits. I am extremely pleased with the cedar raised garden bed. My husband was skeptical when I ordered, and he has now seen how beautiful and effective a raised garden bed can be.I will be buying more of these. I initially purchased 2-4X4 beds and 2-4x8 beds, but will be ordering more for sure.

This product is easy to put together, and looks good for about 1-2 seasons. It does NOT pass the time test, however. We have had ours in for 3-5 seasons (we started with two 4x4 squares and added each year). All but the newest box have begun to split and warp. The dovetails have failed and we have random boards sticking out every which way. Since there is the weight of soil behind them, they are not easily repaired. They split and break when you bend them back into place or try to re-insert them into the grooves. I'm very disappointed that now we will have to go back and re-install something to reinforce our garden. We probably should have just started with cinderblock walls to avoid the headache.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This raised bed is very easy to assemble. Even the caps that fit on top of the posts are predrilled. When I opened the package, I found no directions and almost paniced. I didn't take me long to figure out that all I had to do was slide the boards into the posts. I used a hammer wrapped with a towel on a couple of boards. It went together quickly. I thought I might need a drill, but found the caps to be predrilled. So, I only needed a screwdriver to complete the job. I was planting vegetables in a square foot arrangement, so I put stakes around the perimeter to which I attached the string to divide it into square feet.. I did not want to take a chance of splitting my beautiful cedar. I don't think it detracted too much from the looks of the cedar.
