Customer Questions & Answers

What is the difference of framing nails?

Some are galvanized. Some are plastic coated. some are smooth steel. What are the applications of these nails. What if something is outside exposed to the weather?
Asked by: billy
There are round head nails, clip head nails. Some nails use paper some plastic to bind them together. The angle of the nails need to match your gun too. My old gun will shoot either paper or plastic but is a 30 degree gun and shoots clip head nails. My new gun shoots round head nails, calls for plastic binders and is a 15 degree gun. Think about driving a nail with a hammer and not hitting it straight on, what happens. It will bend or shoot out like a rocket, that is not good in a gun.

can these nails be used in pressure treated lumber?

Asked by: joe
Yes, depending on your project life expectation, would consider a galvanized nail, stainless deck screws for exterior use. Eight to ten years will be the life of these nails, 12 to 15 years painted deck screws begin to fail. For sure would not use nails on deck wood that might be walked on barefoot, nails tend to rise.

can i use these nails in a bostitch framing gun? does home depot sell a box of 1000 nails instead of 4000??

Asked by: kirk
If your Bostitch nail gun is a 21 degree plastic framing nailer, then these nails will work. Home Depot does offer this nail in a 1M tub, it is item 963148 (Grip-Rite item GR0141M).
