Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JayM dont get the bad comments, whisper quiet
I dont understand all the negativity. Maybe there was a bad batch, but mine is so quiet that I wondered if it was working. I actually prefer more noise while I'm doing my business.
I also agree the instructions arent the greatest however anyone with half a brain should be able to figure it out. It really wasnt that difficult at all. Wiring was a breeze, and i was able to remove the duct side cover and re-install from behind the wall. I know not everyone will be this lucky, I can see it being a little difficult if I didnt have access, but thats what spackle is for.
All in all its so quiet and I had mine installed in about an hour. And, I'm an accountant, not an electrician.

I installed two of these fans on the same day, and the installation went well. I just don't care for crawling around in the attic. Instructions were lacking, but I was in this line of work before I retired so I was ok. They are both very quiet, but depending on how you run the duct the noise level could vary. I cannot emphasize that enough. I ran both ducts approx. 8 to 10 feet with a limited number of bends. Good discharge out the vents .

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Gajim Ok fan, tough install
Once installed, it was slightly noisier than the 1 scone rating promised and while it did move air, I'd also question the 110CFM rating. This was my first Hampton Bay fan and it will also be my last. The other comments raising install problems are all correct - ambiguous, incomplete and just plain wrong instructions make this a challenge to install in existing homes. I ended up disassembling the fan, using additional 2x4 bracing in the ceiling and then reassembling the fan while it was being held up in place in the hole before I could secure it to the joists and brace. Yes, I can see the average DIYer resorting to duct tape. The two I'm installing next week will not be Hampton Bay.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ssBar Quiet, Hard install, watch the exhaust flap
It took two people to install with access to the attic and ceiling. Electrical connection was a snap, though we had to separately purchase a conduit fitting/clamp connector to fit the Knock-Out hole used for the house power lines.
When testing the electrical connection but before installing into the ceiling, I was very happy with how quiet it was. However, after putting it in place and connecting the 4" flexible duct, it was VERY loud. We found the exhaust flap had come loose and was rattling around. After putting the flap back in place, the fan was quiet once again and pulling air very well.
The instructions leave much to be desired, and I'm still trying to get the grill cover in place since there is only one set of grooves for the spring clip. I'd recommend looking at a simpler (or better documented) fan for next time.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 1969 This product has good airflow
After opening box, there were no instructions on how to install the fan. I am an electrician, so this should n't be a problem, right? Wrong! This appliance is best suited for a new construction application. You will need two people to install and will need attic access. All in all, after installation, fan is quiet and moves air very well.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by PhillyM Garbage Fan
I moved into a new house with this fan installed and from the very first day it has gotten louder and louder. When I say louder, I actually borrowed a DB meter and measured 92 db which in an industrial facility would require ear plugs. The cage is rattling and is not perfectly circular; I tried to straighten it but to no avail. Since no one has touched the inside of the fan, I can only assume that it is a manufacturer defect. I'm ripping out this 6 month old fan and replacing it this weekend so I don't lose my hearing or my mind.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by JayM I don't get all the complaints, love mine
Let me start this off by saying that I'm an accountant and self trained DIY'er. I've picked up various skills along the way. This fan was very easy to install with just a little thought ahead of time. Many people are complaining about the instructions, but to be honest, I didnt look at them at all. It's about as straightforward an installation could be. The electrical connections cant be any simpler. It was a little tricky getting the unit into the ceiling space because I didnt want to make a hole any bigger than absolutely necessary. Making a cutout just big enough for the motor and not the exhaust outlet, it was impossible. But I removed the exhaust outlet with 3 screws, lifted the unit into place, and then went above to re-attach the exhaust outlet.
One thing to be aware of, the exhaust outlet is 6", I didnt pay attention and got 3" tubing, so a reducing flange is on the way.
Also, maybe other people got a bad batch of them, but I can barely tell mine is on. I actually wish it was a little louder because I was concerned it wasnt working properly. But it is, it's just that quiet.
