Lights turn on and off every few minutes

I have owned this transformer for 5 years. It has worked excellent for me in that time without any problems. I keep it on the timer setting for 6 hours when the daylight ends and the photocell will turn the landscape lights on. In the past week, the transformer will not stay on for more than 2 minutes at a time. Once it turns off, it resets back on after about 30 seconds off. I tried to cover the photocell with electrical tape to make it seem like it is consistently dark, but the "on" and "off" continued to occur. When I leave the transformer on "O" or "on", the transformer keeps the lights on. However, this will be a challenge if I have to manually turn the light and off everyday. Can you help explain to me what is going on with my transformer. Thank you
Asked by: MACC
If the transformer works when on all you need to do is add an outdoor timer to the transformer and it will act as the timer does in the system, no need to replace the transformer.

Can I use an extension cord to provide power to the transformer?

Asked by: Vern
Hi Vern, as another user said, it is not recommended to use an extension cord with the product. You can do it and it will work, but it may cause damages to your transformer after a while.

Would this unit work for LED's?

My unit runs approx. 200w of landscape halogen lights (10 - 20w lights). if I convert to LED, the total would be about 40w-60w. Would this unit operate the 12v LED's as good as the halogens? I know it's a bit of overkill with the 300w capacity.

I have 100watts worth of LED's, and it works fine.

does this have both an A and B leg??? Jim at Home Depot

Asked by: Anonymous
Not sure of the terminology "leg," but if you mean two separate connections for two separate sets of wires/strands, the answer is no: can accept only one, two-stranded low voltage cable, so all lights connected to the unit are either all on, or all off. No separate "station" settings like you can do with a sprinkler controller, for example.
