What type of motor is in this fan?

I'd like to install a constant variable speed controller that can spin the fan at very low speeds.
Asked by: Tremelune

Is it really 60 LBS? seems way more than similar fans.

Asked by: MAS
Hi MAS. Thank you for your interest in the Industrial fan. The product weight is actually 17.64 LBS. We are working to correct the specifications error. Thank you for bringing that to our attention.

I would like to control 4 of these fans with one fan controller

I would like to control 4 of these fans with one fan controller. I haven't found a fan controller at Home Depot up to that task. It appears that the Canarm MC5 or Canarm MC10 controller would handle this task. Are there any known issues with using the Canarm products with these Industrial 60-Inch fans.
Asked by: ScottGA
I have 5 of these fans on a single switch. I too wanted to be able to run these with a fan speed controller. After much research, I used the Canarm MC10. This is a quality switch and worked well. BUT - there will be a hum/buzz emitted from each fan. At least that was the case for me. I called Canarm and they said this is an industrial fan controller and not considered a "quiet" switch. They said if I used their own fans the same results would occur - very nice folks and great service. I have only found one "quite" fan speed controller over 2 amps (Marley Leading Edge is the brand) and it is rated at 5 amps. My installation is in my garage and the acoustics of my set up aren't so bad in the garage, but I hear the buzz/hum from within my house. I removed the switch and am back to single on/off switch for now. Again, the MC10 will work, but expect some noise. For my application, it was too loud.

remote control

When you say the unit is not compatible with any type of RC is it because the receiver doesnt fit into the canopy or is there another tech reason ? Thank you, John
Asked by: John
Hi John. The canopy and mounting system was not designed to accommodate a remote receiver.

can I get an 18" downrod for model #52860?

I want to order this fan, but need an 18" downrod to come with it. Possible?
Asked by: Doug
With regard to industrial fan (item 526012, model 52860) YES you can. We substituted a standard 18" down rod for the shorter one that came with the fan. The fan came with sufficient wiring to pull through the extra length.

Min clearance from the floor to the fan blades 10ft, Fan under Pool Table, now its 7ft to blade this ok?

Reading the review's this fan must have 10ft clearance between floor and the blades right? I'm putting the fan center of my pool table is this ok? Now I have less then 8ft from top pool table to blades. I'm Imaging the top of the pool table is now the floor, will this restrict the airflow or hurt the motor?
Asked by: BigDog
I do not recommend this fan over a pool table. It is a high CFM unit that is designed to be used in barns and warehouses. Buy a standard interior 52-56" five blade model with short down rod and option for ceiling hugger (if needed).

i would like this fan in a smaller size.

how do i measure an existing fan size that has only 3 blades. i am trying to purchase a fan to match one that i bought from Home Depot previously. it is the Hampton Bay Industrial but i believe the size i currently own is less than 60". is it possible you once carried a smaller industrial fan, same model, smaller blades? once i measure the blade, can you sell me 3 of this this same type blade in a smaller size to match what i have? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-Industrial-60-in-White-Ceiling-Fan-52860/204507386?cm_mmc=CJ-_-1319015-_-10368321&AID=10368321&PID=1319015&srccode=cii_13736960&cpncode=34-251859260-2&cj=true

To measure the fan that only has 3 blades, measure on blade from tip to housing, multiply by 2 and add the width of the housing. For instance, this fan's blades are 25in and the housing is about 10" wide. 25x2+10=60. This fan has always been a 60" industrial fan, although it is possible that you have a similar fan from a different manufacturer. This fan is only available in the 60" size.

Fan control needs a deeper than normal electrical box to allow enough room for hookup.Very disappointed with air movement even when running at top speed. This fan was purchased to replace an 8 year old $29 '' k-mart special ''and was not up to the task.Looks cool...but not.

I bought it for my standard size 2 car garage- everything I was looking for. 4 is the top speed but It doesn't seem to have the same brisk breeze as other fans. Lowest speed is perfect to circulate heat when using the infrared garage propane fueled heater in winter.

This has been installed in a 40x40 pole barn to distribute heat from a wood burning stove and I've been using it for a couple of weeks now. It comes with a 4-speed fan controller and that is awesome. The blade direction is reversible, but it is a little awkward to get the switch as a screw needs to be loosened on the shroud on top of the motor to access it. The fan is mounted 13' from the ground and on high speed really blows things around. For the winter in Michigan, I've reversed the direction so that it pulls the air up and distributes the heat. I've measured measured the heat with my temperature gun in different locations and heights and it does a great job of air distribution. Installation was simple and it looks great.

The ceiling height of the garage is at least 16 feet. There is no design for reversing the fan blades seasonally other than climbing a ladder to reach the switch above the fan blades. Even this location would be workable by using a long pole, but the switch is under the dome cover. We have returned these fans and purchased ones that can be controlled (reversed) from the wall switch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fan! Really happy with this fan for my 1200 sq/ft detached shop with 13' ceiling height. I learned of this fan from garage journal.com forum, and am glad I did. Was an easy install, and came with everything, including the 4-position wall controller. Moves an incredible amount of air and looks outstanding, almost like an art deco airplane propeller.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable fan for machine shop I purchased and installed 5 of these fans in my machine shop in 2005. We use them almost every day and they still provide quiet air circulation with no issues. We are currently adding a new building so I went with 9 of the same fan. Sleek, quiet and easy to clean.

It generates more wind noise at the top speed setting, as compared to the other fans. This is due to the power of this industrial fan. However, it gets the job done very well for a large area. I feel a strong breeze in my living room and kitchen. Wording on the box states that it has a "remote switch". That led me to believe there was a remote control included. This product only has a wall switch to control the fan speeds. You may have an issue with finding a fitting wall plate if you have a 4 switch plate prior to install. The brushed steel look is not similar to stainless steel. It is more brilliant in the online pictures. Nevertheless, I still highly recommend this product for the price. You will not get a better price for the size and performance of this ceiling fan! The only drawback is that it does not have a ceiling fan light. I was aware when I purchased the item. However, it appears to have the connections to add one on your own.
