Answer:
It depends on the angle of your ceiling. If it's an extreme angle, you'll need an extended drop rod to allow the fan blades to have clearance without hitting the ceiling on the down-slope side. The wires are plenty long enough, and the instructions explain how to do it. Basically, you need the fan to hang down far enough so that the blades won't hit the low side. Drop rod extensions

I see a 24" Hunter drop rod shown as an accessory for this fan. Will that actually work with Hampton Bay's ball and socket ceiling cup? I think the drop rod included with this fan is only 4-1/2". Are there Hampton Bay extend drop rods available that will work with this fan listed as Hampton Bay Southwind 52 in.Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan Model # 52379 Internet # 203260908 and how would I get one? 18"-24" would be ideal.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very happy Remote was super easy have had no problems with this unit June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality fan for the price The fan's appearance is very nice. Much to my surprise (because of the price point of the fan) is that the fan's motor is whisper quite. Normally I wouldn't purchase a fan online in case it didn't meet my expectations or if it was defective (like the fan motor making noise) but there was no risk as I could always bring it to my local Home Depot store for a full refund. I gave the Ease of installation a three as this fan comes with a RF controller for the remote lighting that sits in the decorative cap which takes a little more effort than a typical fan. So it's not too complicated just more effort. August 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Electrical Short and Fan light not suitable for large rooms Bought this fan Nov 2014. Installed and light was very dim for our living room. Changed bulbs but still dim (only takes candelabra lights). Two months ago, fans started to blow the fuse in our living room. Had to havean electrician come out andcheckfor issues. It was confirmed it was the fan. Installed new fan and no issues Looks good in pictures, but I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Have the same fan in master bedroom and we're replacing one as well. Home Depot will not return. Only purchase if planning on changing your ceiling fan every 2 years. August 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Terrific Fan The ceiling fan looks great and really does an excellent job in a large room. It is so quiet you don't hear it even when it is on high speed. The remote works very well and has three fan speeds and the light dimmer on the remote. It was a very good value and we are super pleased with it. I would buy the same fan if I needed another one. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent fan... and an especially good value at the price We had this installed by professionals in new construction using a 24" download and with the maple side of the vanes showing, to match our maple floors. The fan is quiet, efficient, and very attractive. Got a "wow" from the workers, and they see fans all the time. With the remote control included, this fan is a IMO a great value for the price. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great value I didn't install these, the contractors / electrician that built our home did. I caught these on sale and bought 5 - one for each bedroom and one for the living room. All of them work as expected and are a great value for the price, with or without the sale. August 23, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by quick installation really easy to assemble, it took us about 1hr. fan make some noise and shakes a little bit. September 4, 2016
