What solutions have others found for refinishing or recoating this floor? Which color stain have people found works well for touch up? Any specific products you've had success with? In hindsight, I definitely would have preferred to know to add 2 or 3 coats of polyurethane over this floor to prevent some of the scuffs - the urethane coating and layer of dark stain are very thin, and the underlying cork when exposed stands out starkly in contrast. The manual recommends using touch up markers - these touch ups look shoddy and do not last.

What is the product sealed with, a water base polyurethane or something else?

Hazy finish?

I got this flooring and I really like it except for the sheen of the finish. I was wondering if I just got a bad batch. The finish is hazy, not clear and shiny. It is kind of a matte. It almost looks as if you should wipe some dust off of it. Is that normal?
Asked by: Laura
All Heritage Mill cork products have a matte finish.

As has been noted by all of the displeased reviewers, the urethane coat and the underlying colored layer are very thin and wear off very easily. Plus, the cork itself is much lighter than the dark coloring of the stain, so all scuffs and scratches stand out. After 2 years in a trafficked area, almost every board has these scuff marks. The butt ends of the planks especially are liable to be scuffed off at the edge, as the snap-together notches and grooves are often imperfect and sit together slightly off-level. The manufacturer's recommendation to color scuffs with a stain marker looks like what you'd expect - like you wrote on the floor with a marker. Pro: The floors are great looking out of the box. The color is beautiful. Con: Using this product as flooring that you might actually walk on causes conspicuous scuff marks and scratches.

There were a few planks that didn't snug up well (not due to installation but the way they were machined. They would not tighten up) and you can see the light brown color that the rest of the plank is made of. I ended up taking a permanent marker and coloring the edges of the rest of the planks so that if there was a tiny gap, the light tan wouldn't show. I like the shock absorbing feel, but not sure it's going to hold up to heavy use of a kitchen. I wanted something that wouldn't clash with the 58 year old hardwood that meets up to it at two doorways.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cork laminate is a great choice The cork laminate flooring looks great. We like the variegated appearance together with a plank effect. We did our entryway and liked it so much we're doing the whole house to replace carpet. The surface feels soft underfoot and footfalls make very little noise, unlike typical laminate. The installation instructions state that no underlayment is needed, but poly sheeting is needed over concrete. I found it impossible to get 6 mil poly sheeting to lay perfectly flat, leaving numerous wrinkles throughout, and since the cork planks are slightly flexible, we could here plastic rippling sound as we walked across the floor. So I installed Eco Cork Foam underlayment, which undoubtedly helps with sound and soft feel. Unlike some laminate flooring, installation does not require that each plank to be tapped into the end of the adjacent plank, Instead the plank drops into a notch in the adjacent plank. This design simplifies installation. However, the edges don't fit flush 100% of the time, and it takes a whack of a soft blow hammer to get the edges to seat. I had a few places where I didn't get the joint secure and now the gap is growing. As others have mentioned, the machined interlocking portion at the edges of the planks are brittle and small chunks will break off during shipping and handling. I don't feel it's enough to affect the security of the installation. Still and all I think we made the right choice at the price point, especially when compared to a true wood floor, which I think is comparable in feel and sound as opposed to a laminate floor (and we have installed a 12 mm laminate floor on Eco Cork Foam in one room).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent Product I had this installed throughout much of my home the past 15 months. I did a kitchen and dinning room area followed by living room and hallway. All was well until the 2nd order the dye job was significantly different the last few boxes. I placed another order and had 1 box come the correct color but damaged and the others come mis-colored again. Home Depot was no help, I tried calling the company, Home Depot twice gave me the wrong phone number..... I've since ordered more again and had them come in mis-colored again. I gave up hope on ever getting the correct color and just decided to stagger the planks. It also isn't extremely durable, scratches and dents fairly for cork.
