This blower is not a leaf vacuum or shredder. It can be used to blow the leaves into a pile then you can rake them into a lawn bag.

Ratio of oil to gas question

This question is from 23.9 cc 170 mph 441 CFM Hand Held Gas Blower

Just bought this based on all the good reviews. I didn't find the instructions for the mix ratio of oil to gas very clear. Looks like you can use 40:1 or up to 50:1 on this blower. I fired it up with 40:1 and it runs just fine but was wondering what ratio most of you are using and if so for how long? Wouldn't want to go to 50:1 and find out it burns out the motor over time.

The manual states that the mixture of gas/oil should be between 25:1and 50 :1. The maximum ethanol content is 10 percent.

Manual said 25-50 to 1 ratio. I am using 50:1 mix in mine and works just fine. This way I can use the same as my trimmer uses.

50:1 for the last 2 years. I use the blower year round. I just started using ethanol gas treatment and Sta-bil storage to my gas. I want my lawn equipment running good.

Answer:
Mixing tends to be a bit of an inexact science where one drip makes a difference in small mixes. Sticking close to 40:1 should be fine and not invite premature issues with the engine.

Hi Jack,
I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site.
You can run different oils that prescribe 40:1 and 50:1 mixing ratios with equal results.
The difference is the quality of the base oil that is used by the oil manufacturer. Oil that has superior lubricating qualities will achieve that lubrication using less oil (50:1). Inferior oil requires more oil to lubricate (40:1).

Hi Jack,
I'm Travis from The Home Depot.
Oil that is recommended to be mixed at a ratio of 50:1 (50 parts gasoline to 1 part oil) will lubricate any high RPM 2-cycle engine made by any engine manufacturer. Hi RPM means average engine speed greater than 5,000 RPM.
When the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) imposed clean air standards on small engines, the ratio of 40:1 was determined to meet the emissions standard set at that time.
50:1 exceeds that standard and produces fewer emissions than 40:1 does.
32:1 and other lower ratios have been eliminated from manufacture as result of these clean air requirements.
You can run 50:1 or 40:1 fuel mix in any of your equipment. 40:1 will produce more emissions, but they are within the EPA's guidelines.
Thank you for asking,
-Travis Read Less

23.9 cc 170 mph 441 CFM Hand Held Gas Blower is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 392.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best gas leaf blower! Bought this Hitachi Model RB24EAP blower new at Home Depot 5 years ago in early Sept 2011. What sold me was the price ($99 on sale) and the 7-year Consumer Warranty that was offered. Have used this blower regularly for 5 years to blow debris from sidewalks & driveway on a large corner lot withOUT any issues. Starts on first or second pull of the string starter. Have had a couple of other gas blowers over the years....this is the best by far. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best blower on the market! I first purchased an EGO 56v battery blower. After 10 minutes at full speed the battery died. After 2 uses, I called their customer and all they wanted to do was sell me a more improved battery for $199.00 which is the same cost of the full unit.. There was no interest on their part to help or satisfy me, their customer. Hence, I packed up the unit and returned for a full refund. After reading the reviews on the Hitachi 2 stroke gas blower, I decided to give it a try...what an outstanding unit. Well made and lightweight. The power of this unit exceeded my expectations and I could not be happier. Starts every time on first pull after pumping the fuel bulb 3 or 4 times. I would recommend this blower to anyone who wants excellent power to get the job done right. Thanks Hitachi for make a well made, reliable and reasonably priced unit. It really does a fantastic job at my home!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1st pull, EVERYTIME Because of my experience with weed wackers and chain saws, I assumed that most, if not all gas powered lawn products were worthless after a few times. I can't tell you how many gas string trimmers I've had, finally giving up and getting an electric one--better to drag a 100 ft cord around than fight starting a heavy, bulky, blue smoke emitting trimmer, and my old blower was no different. BUT very surprised at this. Everything I imagined a blower COULD be. Starts on the 1st pull EVERY time, and powerful, lightweight. Had to get one for my friend's birthday, even. Have to check to see if Hitachi makes a weed wacker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Deserving of it's great reviews I have an Echo trimmer which I love, but based on the reviews I went with the Hitachi blower. This thing starts right up every time and has plenty of power to boot. Some complain about the intake, but I don't see it as an issue because I don't rest the blower on my side. I used TruFuel the first time and will continue to use it because it runs very smoothly and there will be no risk of voiding my warranty due to the Ethanol in today's gasoline. Speaking of which, this blower seems very fuel efficient. I highly recommend this product. Great price and great quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best tool I have ever purchased This is my 3d leaf blower and not only the best blower I have ever owned/used but the best tool I have ever owned/used. It always starts on the first pull and never loses power no matter how long I use it. I used it all fall removing leaves and debris but the biggest benefit I have received is removing SNOW from my driveway, sidewalks and even the road in front of my house. I thought I would give it a try when we got a light snow and it worked perfectly. A few days later we got a heavier snow and I was able to use it on that. It worked so well that I went all around the neighborhood blowing snow to the side of the road. I don't expect it to work on heavier, wet snow but I have been able to set my snow thrower aside for the time being.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gas powered Hand held blower Having a farm, something always needs cleaned off or out, this is ideal, no cord, easy starting and gets into areas which used to just have to stay dirty or run the compressor to try to get it. Love this thing should have made this purchase long ago saves about half a day cleaning out the combine, swather, tractors and bailer. Leaving all that dust and debris in there attracts moisture which starts things rusting and increases the maintenance cost of the equipment. Also attracts mice looking for a free meal, should cut down on mice eating the wiring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from From Minnesota Just bought this. I was looking for a small compact Gas blower (with no vaccum) that my Wife could also use. So the lighter the better. Ipicked up all the ones on display, and they were so heavy that you would struggle blowing for any length of time. It started like a dream, with very little effort. It works great, and is very powerful. I used it on the roof to blow out the gutters of leaves, and it is so light that it makes it easy, without the worry of carrying a heavy load on the roof, and fear of falling. I would definitely recommend this blower, yeh! it's more expensive but worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, yet quiet blower. I bought this product based on the reviews that I had read on-line. I must admit that I have not been disappointed in the least. Very easy assembly, and it starts on the 1st or 2nd pull every time. This blower is reasonably priced, and very light weight. My only suggestion would be for Home Depot to stock it in there stores, rather than having to buy on-line.
