Great design; the pre-drilled holes lined up pecisely where necessary which made it easier to assemble.

Once this bench went together, it looked great. However, some of my complaints were the same as others. Packing material was everywhere. I had to vacuum each piece as I unpacked it, and still there was styrofoam "lint" everywhere. Using the directions provided were confusing, and some where just incorrect. However, moving forward with common sense, I was able to assemble this with no more problems and completed the assembly in about 1 hour and I am a 63 year old woman. So if you can't do it, or take longer than an hour, you are probably lacking the common sense part of the equation. I love this bench....it's exactly what I wanted.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by faire Sturdy chest - Difficult assembly required!
Pros: Once assembled, it is a sturdy, stylish chest.
Cons: While the description states "partial assembly required", my husband claimed it should have been "full assembly required'. It took him 2.5 hours to assemble this item! Granted, he did it by himself, but he's also handy with tools and no stranger to assembling things. Also, we selected the ivory colored chest. After seeing it, I would not call the color ivory. It has a lot more yellow - maybe Maize would be a better color name. Finally, we removed the hardware that prevents the lid from slamming shut as it only allowed the lid to open 2/3 of the way making it awkward to get larger items into the chest.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by dmbklyn Could be better
The good: It fits perfectly in the space I needed it for. The design is good because the back and arms make it a good bench, and there's plenty of storage space inside. The color is not black, it is very dark brown. Decent looking and serves the purpose.
The bad: Messy assembly - runny glue and teeny styrofoam packing bits that spread all over the house and carpets. Constructed poorly - the screw holes are not deep enough so the bottom has a gap on one side because the pieces won't fit together all the way. The distressing is not nice, just looks more like they scratched it in 2 places randomly. The cushion fabric is a little ugly and cheap looking, but would be easily dressed up with custom fabric.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by eflb What a total mess
I absolutely cannot believe the extremely poor product quality. It is total junk. One side panel is warped and therefore it cannot be put together. It is made of the cheapest fibreboard I have ever seen. I have put together lots of cam bolt cabinets. Never have I seen a cam bolt actually break. Cheap Cheap Cheap. I have spent hours trying to assemble this only to reach a warped final board, so now it can't be put together without a replacement of that board. What a total mess. No redeeming qualities. ARGGGGHHHHH. Never Never Never again.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Julie38 Nice looking if you can survive assembly
The assembly on this bench was a real bear. It began with mistakes on the direction sheet that caused me to glue dowels in the wrong holes and later pry them out and continued with a lack of plumbed sides, dowels that were too long and screws that were so picky my dad ended up having to measure them to ensure they would fit together. When dropping on the bottom a dowel shot straight through the bottom and tore a hole in the base. It looks great now that it's together and I'm happy to see it sitting there, but I'm not sure the assembly was worth the trouble.

This item is reasonably satisfying when complete. You won't think it's anything like fine furniture but it's useful for a little nook in a bay window. The assembly is a bit more difficult than it should be. I've done quite a few of these kits and this one is a little worse than average. It's solid in the end though. If you follow this tip, you'll be fine: Unscrew the main portion of the lid from its hinge, set it aside and re-attach as the last step. Attach the cross piece to the rear and side panels without the unwieldy lid. You can leave the brass hinge attached to the cross-piece while you're working. Also, there are a couple omissions in the instructions in showing where pegs go. My wife thinks the cushion is ugly and is making a fabric sleeve for it.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by catinthehat nice for the money
As per multiple other reviews, the assembly was very difficult for someone to do alone.
Would be nice to have a choice for the cushion upholstery. The one included is very plain, but adequate.
Overall, once together the bench looks very nice and is exactly what I was looking for for my guest room.
It hasn't seen much use yet so we'll see about longevity and overall quality.
Am happy with the purchase and would recommend it to others. Strongly suggest having help for the assembly though.
