Though the description did say Antique Ivory, the picture looked white. So, when I received the shelves I was surprised that they were a very dark cream that was rather unattractive and not what I expected. Also the finish had several prominent flaws. I called customer service and they offered me a few options. I chose to return the piece, and I am awaiting the return slip and paid shipping to arrive in the mail. Though the shelves were disappointing customer service was very good.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by runnergirl14 Nice piece but very large
It's a really well constructed pretty bookcase. We bought it in ivory and it has a country shabby chic look. It is really big-it's wide and it's tall, a little over 3 ft tall, so the room you're planning on putting it in should be large. Otherwise, it will take up too much space--in a bedroom 10x10 or even 12x11 it will over power these size rooms. Also, the ivory has a natural distressed look so plan on it looking a little worn. If you don't like that look then this bookcase is not for you. It would look great in a loft or large study; it holds tons of books too.

I saw others write that the distressed look was poorly done. I almost didn't purchase it because of the comments. However I liked the cottage accents so much that I decided to try it anyway. I'm glad I did! There was hardly any distressed spots and the paint was in fact, "antique ivory." It was easy to put together and VERY sturdy. I bought this for my infant daughter and I know she will be able to take it with her when she goes to college in the future!

This bookshelf is pretty and sturdy. However, it arrived with very deep dents and gashes in the wood, which had been painted over. And noticeable patches of paint missing, which had been lacquered over. Very obvious problems which should have been picked up at quality control. It was a clearance item, which was the only reason I kept the piece.

I actually bought this to match another purchase I made of a larger bookshelf (also from home decorators). The colors matches perfectly, and the styles are very similar. The assembly was OK... it's not as sturdy as the other bookshelf I have, but this might be because of the screws. Overall it is very cute and functional :)

We had a good experience with this bookcase, except for the color (supposedly ivory). The shipment arrived quickly via UPS and was undamaged. The box does weigh around 70 lbs., so you have to be prepared for that. This is a hefty piece for its size. Everything needed for assembly was in the box, including very clear, easy to follow directions. My husband said there were even a few extra hardware pieces added in, just in case they were needed. It took him about an hour to assemble it. The bookcase pieces fit together solidly and it sits evenly on the floor. The only complaint I have about this collection, that I couldn't discern from the photos online, is that the color is an off-white that is in the gray-green family. It is not a creamy off-white or ivory as I had expected, and I have to agree with other reviewers who have stated the distressed finish looks very amateurishly done. I would like the piece better without the distressing. Consequently, I plan to paint it this summer in a creamier off-white to match the desk and chair I bought from Home Depot from the Martha Stewart collection.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jvmc Very good deal
I purchased a set of these bookcases for my living room in antique ivory. The are solidly constructed with the exception of the particle board that attaches to the back. Assembly was smooth but would have been easier with someone to help me because the pieces are heavy and somewhat tricky to handle until you get the four sides secured. I also had to play around with the back panels quite a bit because they tended to 'pop' in one area while I was working on another. My recommendation is to partially screw in the panel overall and then go back and tighten.
The finish was a surprise in that it is distressed in spots. This ended up not being an issue for me but could be for someone else who didn't interpret "antique" to mean distressed or rubbed. Also, the distressing was a little too evenly made with a set of two ovals frequently appearing - almost as if someone was literally following directions to rough it up a bit. Again, this was not a deal breaker for me. I bought the bookcases on sale, with an additional $50 off and free shipping and am very happy with them.
