Customer Questions & Answers

Can this product be used for painting a room???

Asked by: Yvonna
Yes, but it would probably require stopping to refill the small paint reservoir included with the unit. That said, a little paint goes a long way when spraying.

Is oil-based paint ok to use with this paint sprayer?

Asked by: Cathy
Yes, just make sure it's thinned with appropriate mineral spirits/paint thinner, NOT water. All paint must be thinned considerably for use with any kind of sprayer.

Works as stated I have sprayed latex top coats with it so far as well as latex primers. easy to clean up plastic parts which is perfect for waterbase products. I will be spraying some stains with it soon after using with the latex I do believe this will perform well with the stains due to its fluid tip size. Overspray with the latex was minimal used to spray to colors in a laundry room once the topcoat and primer were thinned properly the gun walked right through it. Tips for spraying make sure you check your product you are using with the viscosity cup provided based on the chart in the instructions.

I suggest several practice sessions, first with water, then with paint. Be sure and dilute the paint as instructed, and be doubly sure to clean the unit completely after each use. Cleaning is not hard, just a little messy. I painted a mantle for my fireplace (3 coats + primer). I had some runs at first, but cleaned them up, and re-sprayed later with a fine finish. Again it takes some practice. It generally takes longer to prepare the paint and clean the unit after use than the actual painting time. There is minimal overspray.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product, nice result If you suffered through the old Wagner sprayer, that spit, sprayed unevenly and everywhere, you will be so happy with this product. The results were nice. I used it for my cabinet doors, turning them from oak to white. Adjusts from a super-light spray all the way to a much heavier spray. It's lighter weight than the old dinosaur. HVLP helps the fine finish. The overspray is minimal. Extremely easy to clean! You don't need the cleaner attachment. You just run soapy water through it, and open the nozzle to clean the needle, etc, and it will be like new for you to use again. Caution: keep it at right angle for even spray.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy with this sprayer I'm in the process of painting my kitchen cabinets, and so far I've sprayed water based primer, paint, and top coat. The primer and paint required thinning with water. So I followed the manufacturers recommendations and the Finish Max sprayer was great! Everything spayed very easily and evenly. The only problem I had (and this wasn't the fault of the sprayer) was that over time the primer and water separated and the primer became very watery and started to run. After realizing what happened, I made sure to mix or swirl frequently and had no problems after that. I did make sure to clean it immediately after every use, which really wasn't more time consuming than cleaning a paint brush... just make sure to follow the instructions.

My review is based on rather brief usage, spraying some cabinets and shelving. I had never used any paint sprayer before. The instructions for this sprayer emphasize practicing with it first, and while I did first practice with water as advised, to get a sense of spray pattern and flow adjustment and then did some test spraying with paint on cardboard, I didn't want to use a lot of the paint (at over $50/gal.) in practice so perhaps I didn't do enough of it. In any case, my results with the cabinet were mixed. It was easy enough to use, but after spraying I found areas where the paint had dribbled/pooled...some I didn't notice until it was dry and I had to refinish. I suspect, however, that this was a problem with not having adjusted the flow setting properly (not enough practice!) or perhaps having thinned the paint too much or not enough. The sprayer comes with both user manual and a "run-out" test cup which is used to test/adjust paint viscosity for the sprayer. For the paint I used Sherwin Williams Pro Classic water-borne acrylic, and, using the "run-out" test cup, had to add slightly 20% water to get the run-out to complete anywhere close to the time frame advised in the manual for latex paints. Perhaps that was too much thinning; or maybe not even enough because I could have added even more H2O to the paint cup if I wanted to get the run-out within the specified time. Or maybe my spraying technique was poor (though I tried to keep smooth, even movements.... I can't say. Where the paint didn't have such dribbles, the results were good... smooth coats. So I suspect "user error" at times, and if I had the luxury of more practice time & paint, and scrap panels, etc. to practice on, perhaps I'd get a lot better result. I'm going to give it 4 stars because I think it's worth the cost and expect it can provide a lot better results than I got on my first usage.
