This mower is replacing a Honda Model HR215, also a hydrostatic drive - the "grandfather" of this mower. The HR215 was used regularly for 22 years and I'm looking forward to similar performance. The proven longevity, variable speed and lack of pulleys and belts make this an excellent mower in spite of its higher front end cost. This mower also offers a selective, (no blade change), mulching option the earlier HR215 did not. However, have yet to try out the Mulching option. Out of the box, gas & oil, she started with 1 pull.

Had an earlier version of this mower for years, and when it was time to replace it, this was an easy decision. One-pull starting and easy to use. Perfect for a 1/2 acre lot.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by EdinTexas Like the Select Drive Better After Having for Toro Personal Pace
I really wanted to like this mower. I guess having a Toro Personal Pace for 15 years made a switch to this mower too difficult. I just couldn't get use to holding the three handles. Pinched my finger more than once. So I took Robert @ Honda advice and picked up the similar Select Drive model a couple days ago. I tried it out yesterday and like it much better. The Select Drive is more like the Personal Pace for ease of use IMO. HD also had it on sale for $599 which made the switch even easier.
Now that I've tried both, will say I like the how the hydrostatic transmission requires no push to get it moving. The Select Drive does require a push at times especially going up hills. But overall, the Select Drive works better for me and what I'm use too. Both are great mowers.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Florida Needs TLC, but a great machine
These are great mowers....but the carburetor is a big problem. I am now a professional Honda lawn mower repair man. The problem is the ethanol in our gasoline. If you leave it in the carb on these motors, the carb gums up and good luck starting your mower. If you can get ethanol free gas...do it. One more tip. The valves on these things tend to stick on new mowers. Put a touch of two stroke motor oil in the gas. If you don't believe me...you'll find out the hard way...Other than that....these are great mowers...

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Raz Outstanding Lawn Mower
What an outstanding mower!!! I looked at tons of expert and customer reviews. This mower is the best. Agree with some of the comments (wheels were not the same level out of box so check that, lawn mower is a bit heavy so if that is a concern take it into consideration, takes a while to get used to the levers and operation) but overall, the lawn looks like a carpet. I used to have to empty the bag on my Toro 20+ times to complete the yard.....just 4 times with this mower. Lots of power, easy to operate once you get the feel for it. My first Honda but I can see why customers rave about it......more expensive but really worth it! Love that lawn mower.

Great lawnmower. Cuts extreamly well. Plenty of power even in high thick damp grass. Keeps cutting when other mowers would have stalled out. The only draw back is the blade control lever that must kept engaged. It has a strong spring and after cutting awhile your left hand gets tired. Not a big issue, just something that you have to get use to. The mower is also heavy, but has plenty of power to keep pulling it along when cutting. Well made. Hope it lasts 30 plus years like my last Honda mower!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by KMH Love this mulching macine!!
After comparing comparable mowers and prices, I purchased the mower online and love it, Its' features are reliable and provides a beautiful finish for my one and a half acre property with some hilly terrain. Starts the first time every time and I especially like being able to disengage the cutting blade without stopping the motor. The mulching/bagger feature is superb.
