Questions & Answers

how much engine oil does it hold

Asked by: john
They why does Honda only ship it with a pint (16oz) of oil? Mine barely registered on the dipstick with the whole bottle added.

Does the HS720AM snow blower automatically turn off when you let go of the handle?

Asked by: Mike
No, the handle isn't a safety type bar that kills the motor when released, as you'd find on a lawnmower. It's actually an auger clutch bar. It engages the auger paddles and the engine will continue to run when released. You have to turn the engine kill switch to OFF or, better yet, shut off the fuel valve and let the fuel lines and carb run dry, which takes about a minute or two. That keeps the fuel, especially fuel with ethanol, from absorbing moisture from the atmosphere and gumming things up.

How to you handle over 12 inch snow, given the 12 inch height intake? Do you tilt the front-end upward? Or let the machine ride on top of the snow pile?
Asked by: jmt
I cut one path down the center of the driveway by pushing forward and pulling back. Then I take narrow swaths allowing the snow to cave off the edge to create a manageable depth. But the best bet is to just blow more frequently mid storm.

Is it normal for the unit to creep in idle ( no auger )

Does seem to have excessive vibration but it does have some in idle
Asked by: ed
Adjust the auger clutch bar and spring per the instructions. Mine was set WAAAY too tight out of the box. With the clutch bar held down, the spring should stretch from 2.95 - 3.15 inches. Mine stretched to over six inches.

HS720AM 20 in. Single-Stage Gas Snow Blower is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light weight Being a short woman I'm not the strongest. But this snowblower my husband picked out is pretty easy for me to use. It's light weight and super easy to maneuver around. There are pros and cons to this machine. It is light, user friendly, great for removing a fresh dump of snow right down to the concrete level. However it has a rubber auger and is not able to clear the burm left behind by the city plow trucks. That I still have to do with a shovel unless my neighbor comes by with his heavyweight metal snowblower. I love this snowblower and as a first time owner I would recommend this unit to anyone. It's easy to turn around and does the job fast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Could not get my Toro to start so I went out and bought a Honda. Come home and gassed up the new Honda. It started on the first pull. It went through the snow like a hot knife through butter. While I was snow blowing my friend got the Toro running . He came out and used the Toro alongside me and there was no comparison between the two. The Honda made the Toro look like a joke. Worth every penny .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honda Makes the BEST Snow Blowers! This snow blower does everything that's advertised...Easy to start (starts on first pull every time), Powerful (throws snow 30 ft) and easy to handle. All of my neighbors have big, two stage snow blowers and this Honda out performs them all. While they're lumbering through the snow with their big snow blowers, my little Honda maneuvers through the snow quickly and RIPS through the mountain of snow deposited at the mouth of the driveway by the snow plows. This Honda throws the snow from the end of my driveway all the way across the street! You would never guess that this 20 inch Honda could be so powerful! If you want a compact, lightweight snow blower that can handle the heavy snow as easily as the light stuff, look no further. Save yourself the additional $100.00 for the upgraded version with the electric starter. This snow blower starts on the first or second pull every time!! This is a great product...I promise that you'll be extremely happy with this snow blower!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so Good I just got this snowblower and have used it only 2 times so far. We got a 4 inch wet snowfall and I was anxious to try it. I originally planned on getting a two-stage snowblower but was actually talked out of it by the salesperson who felt that the single-stage would be more than adequate. I was really surprised at how well this blower worked with the wet snow. Since it is sort of self-propelled by the auger - I actually almost had a hard time keeping up with it. It did an excellent job clearing the snow right down to the pavement. It was very easy to handle - actuallly much easier and quicker than my old two-stage blower. I found that I could go at a reasonable pace. It also handled the extra snow at the end of the driveway put there by the snow plow. I am anxious to see how it does when we gete about 6-8 inches of reasonably dry snow. I can add more as I get more experience with it so ar so good.

Delivery person wheeled the box right up my driveway and to my garage. All I had to do was take it out of box, install chute and I'm ready to go with the first snow! Honda even included a bottle of 5-W-30 oil. Excellent service. Did not have to drive to HD and load heavy box into cart, out to car, etc. Free delivery too!
