There is no removable tray. It evaporates automatically up to a certain point, but in high humidity areas, a drainage hose connected to the back of the unit is necessary.

Answer:
While the evaporation of the unit's condensation is automatic, it's not automatically controlled. Most times, you shouldn't need to empty the unit, but for the times that you do (i.e. when it's excessively humid), you should only have to empty a tray's worth.
If you're looking to unload a bucket of water, you should probably be looking for a dehumidifier, not an AC ;)

This unit comes with auto evaporation. Condensation need to be removed only if you have a very very high humid weather, in this case you could need to remove some condensation.

Portable AC works best when obstructions removed and can be placed within 2 to 4 ft of sliding window. I have beds in way in bedrooms so I leave in living room where window access is clear. Is a little bulky to transport the window assembly easily. It is easier to leave in one room and this works well for my situation.

Maximum window size for included plastic expandable kit is 47". Included hose is fairly short so AC needs to be placed close to sliding window. Minimum size didn't measure but estimate less than 24" size.

I actually made my own window kit using the original kits vent hole as a template. My window was too narrow to use the vented plate - heavy cardboard and contact paper. works great - looks great and the hose stays in place.

The window opening should be a minimum of 19-7/8" by 4" to accommodate the rectangular window bracket of those dimensions.
With the added extensions, the bracket can reach as far as 46-7/8".
Hope this helps!

Yes, it does. The heat that is removed from the room air has to be ventilated outside or all you are going to be doing is paying a lot of money for a fan.

Yes, ventilated at least for the air conditioner mode with exhaust hose/window adapter vented out sliding window to outside. Dehumidifier and fan modes don't require exhaust vent outside. Fan mode suggests opening nearby window for source of cool air for fan.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Liked the product BUT Liked the portability of the unit. Looks good but the black plastic face scratches easily. Came with a stickey sheet of directions on it and can't get the glue off. Purchased one a couple of years ago from Sharp. Both unites work good but the Sharp unit is not so easily damaged. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy installation! Installed easily in our shop and keeps everyone happy on those hot, muggy days. June 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works for me! I live in a ranch, and bought two of these units. At this time, we are having a heat wave! "Mid 90s high humidity'" With the two units I also added two fans to direct air flow. One unit using top drain is routed to my set tub in the basement. The other using top drain goes to a bucket, I can't believe how much water is collected. At mid 90 degrees the house is in the mid to upper 70' and humidity is very low. The top drain works great on both A/C or dehumidify. Not sure what the bottom drain does, put a shallow pan under it and very little water came out. I'm happy with the units! July 29, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Does not cool! I bought this piece of trash for my elderly mother and it does cool down her apartment. I have no idea why others would give it such a high rating. Don't waste your money!!! October 13, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by portable AC We tried this AC and found it did nit work as well as expected. We purchased another AC from a local company August 25, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by delivered damaged The Home Depot is always choice #1 for me. The AC unit I ordered came damaged and the return was made as easy as the purchase. Home Depot is the best! August 5, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Happy With This Purchase This unit was purchased for a 600 square foot space in a home in the Northwest. It's not supposed to get hot up here but the last 2 years have brought record high temps. (high 90's - low 100's) Not many homes up here have central a/c. It cools way down at night so we do not have to run it to sleep. Open windows and fresh air keeps it cool at night. The space it cools includes a family room, dining area and kitchen. You must be realistic. This great looking unit is not going to cool a 600 square foot room into the 60's or even low 70's when it's 100 degrees outside. It will keep that big room between 75-77 degrees when it's that hot outside however. We find that perfectly fine. Also, if you start it running AFTER the room is already hot (90's or higher) it will struggle. Set the thermostat in the low to mid 70's before it gets hot and you will stay comfortable all day. I subtracted a star because you can not get an extended window kit. I installed this in a 58 inch high vertically operated window and had to make my own window extension. What a pain! August 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great AC portable unit for one room. Does a fantastic job cooling my FL room. A little tricky to install if you have sliding windows but if you install vent hose vertically in window instead of horizontally you just have a small area to cover with plywood or whatever to keep heat out where the hose plate does not cover. Of course you have to use something to keep the window from sliding but just use good old American ingenuity. Great for cooling one room fast. July 29, 2015
