Answer:
There is an On button and a Run button that lets you set the temperature where you desire. The On button overrides the Auto function so you can hold the temperature where you want it to be.

Answer:
Yes, it has the option to overide the schedule. You set the desired temperature, then tell it to hold that setting. When you return from vacation, simply place it back on its normal schedule. There should be a PDF manual for the thermostat that explains how it works in more detail. If not, Google "RTH2410" and you should be able to find it.

At the back of the unit there is a switch to change between Gas/Oil and Electric heating. I'm not 100% positive, but I assume you'd just switch to Electric heating for our purposes.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 54 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Thermostat program changed for no apparent reason This programmable thermostat apparently did not give everyone who used it the same problem I experienced, so perhaps I got a defective unit. The unit was easy to install and very straightforward to program. I know I installed it correctly because the AC fired up and was working fine. As I went through the programming sequence, I noticed that the preset temperatures were pretty low, unquestionably all below 80 degrees and mostly much lower than that. My temperature settings for all the different periods ranged between 76 and 80 degrees--including four periods for M-F, four for Sat, and four for Sun. I stepped away feeling good about the installation, but later in the evening, other members of the household were complaining of the heat. I checked the thermostat and as I went through the program sequence, I found that the settings had arbitrarily changed--many to temperatures at 85 or above. This includes changes in all three day groups and multiple periods within those groups. I know I never put in any temperatures that high. I know I put in fresh batteries and the unit never lost power between the time I programmed it and the time the program went haywire. My conclusion: faulty electronics or software. Basically, I wrote this lengthy review to say my unit reprogrammed itself. I tried to look for similar experiences via Google, and eventually found someone here had a similar problem. So, back to HD it goes. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the next unit, whether Honeywell or another brand. June 7, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement electronic thermostat. Electronic thermostat. This was beyond easy to install by an elderly woman who could not wait for the electrician to make an appearance. May 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Settings timer Program does not work well to set the timers to start on and off . May 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Pulls apart in your hands. Poor design. This thing snaps together when assembled at the factory. Really poor mechanical design. First one fell apart after I got it mounted to the wall and tried to remove it from the back plate. Took it back for another and it had been assembled with one of the pins mashed under breaking the solder joint. I don't need the high $$ wireless stuff. Just want a simple programmable thermostat. Unfortunately this Honeywell line is the only one available in HD or Lowes stores. Note that the more expensive Honeywells snap together also, similar design as these. Honeywell FAIL!!! July 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 2 time failure and terrible service from Honeywell, stay away Received as a gift. I have used programmable Tstats for 10 yrs. First unit would switch to 'Wake' at 3 am but was not programmed until 6 am. Honeywell rep told me "just push the Hold button and it will keep the temperature you set". Sir, this completely negates the price / use of a programmable Tstat. 2nd unit has begun doing the same thing at 10 pm. I removed batt's, reprogrammed it and it continues. Now to call H-well and see what great advice they have. Buy a LUX !!! January 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I think this thermostat Is Best for Value Working as desired. Thermometer is accurate. Keeping pretty good temperatures in my poorly isolated apartment. Recommend. It is a lot better than the mechanical Honeywell that I had before and also I like it is programmable so I can regulate temp for during the day when me and my room mate is not at home. February 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible design! The design for this product is terrible. The first thing you have to do, according to the instructions, is pull the mounting bracket off the back. This is next to impossible to do without breaking the whole thermostat. I tried and literally ripped the thermostat apart. Of course, when I put it all back together and installed it, it wouldn't work. So I took it back to the store (after calling customer service and confirming that it was truly broken). So there I am back at the thermostat display trying to decide if I want to buy the same model I just returned or spend $20 more for the next higher grade of thermostat. Along comes an employee and when he hears my story, he takes down another of these thermostats, opens the package and tries to remove the bracket. Even with my warnings and coaching, he still broke it, just like I did. Vindication! It isn't me; it is the product's design. Buy this at your own risk; you have been warned! January 26, 2016
