Questions & Answers

I have had this installed but I am getting too much warm water out of my cold faucets. How do I adjust so cold comes out the cold faucets?

Asked by: Frustrated
If the pump stopped pumping once hot water reached the sink this wouldn't be a problem. These systems utilize a Normally Open thermostatic valve that closes only after 94F water contacts the valve. Once closed the valve won't open until heat loss occurs in the hot water pipe dropping the temperature below the valves specified temperature. This results in 93F water entering your cold water line at the same rate at which heat is being lost through convection in your hot water lines. There is a video on youtube showing that's normal to wait as much as 80 seconds for cold water at taps which have these valves installed.

DO I REALLY NEED THE PUMP OR WILL JUST THE SENSOR VALVE DO THE TRICK

lF I UNDERSTAND THE PUMP ONLY INCREASES THE PRESSURE.
Asked by: BKLYNDOG
I think the fellow who indicated "convection" has a point. In an instance where the hot water is required, say a kitchen sink, is higher in elevation than the hot water heater and they are directly connected by the addition of a dedicated line back to the water heater, then water should flow through the circuit due to thermal convection. Cold water is more dense than hot water and would like to flow downwards while at the same time the hot water would tend to rise. The resulting differential in pressure is very low and dependent on the height difference between the two points and the pressure drop through the pipe. Thus the efficiency of this would be increased by a greater height difference and larger supply and return lines.

Does this unit heat up the water in the toilets?

I was wondering if this unit causes issues with warm water in toilets?
Asked by: luckydog777
There's nothing wrong with having some warm water in the toilet tank. It will keep the tank from sweating in the winter, if you're in a cold climate.

It is truly wonderful to be able to wash your hands in warm/hot water without having to wait. This pump really does the job. For easier install get slip on connector mentioned below, easy install with no waiting for cure time. "SharkBite 3/4 in. Push-to-Connect x 3/4 in. FIP x 15 in. Braided Stainless Steel Water Heater Connector" I had to add an additional connection under the sink on the other side of the house. One thing to be aware of is that the connection under the sink will emit a fairly quiet water flowing noise. The first time I heard it, I thought a toilet was running.

Minor Con: Pay attention to instructions though, if there is more than 1 loop of piping in your house you will need to buy another valve kit, no big deal really, but you need to get it if you want the full benefits of have almost instant warm water at all locations. Benefit: I ended up turning my water heater temperature way down because the pipes stayed warm allowing the water (when used) to not dissipate as much heat, those cold pipes (I have copper) make a huge impact on the water temperature when it reaches the fixture. Minor Con: I did lose pressure in 2 sinks and a shower after hooking up the unit. Turns out that the recirculating of the water must have kicked-up a lot of debris which got caught in the smaller orifices and screens. I just disconnected them and blew them out. Now my pressure is much greater than before, so it needed to get done regardless. No reason not to have one of these, especially if you are waiting more than 20 seconds for warm water.

The base connection almost fooled my plumber. But then my plumber is not the brightest Bob. It’s one of those situations where you either tighten it first while you have full clearance with a large wrench but must estimate the proper direction it’ll face, or tighten it last with his favorite mini Channel-Locks. He did the latter. Leaked at first, but fixed / retightened okay. Now working beautifully. The undersink parts I did myself no problem. I’ve further have it plugged into a smart outlet. So now I turn it on remotely from bedside just 15 minutes before needed — because my schedule is not regular. Ready for winter.

He said the quality is the same as a more expensive German version and should give years of service. It is simple to operate, set and forget, if power is lost, it is easy to reset the timer. This is our first week with it, but so far it lives up to expectations. With the hot water heater in the basement and bathrooms on the second floor, it took forever to get hot water to shower or lavatory. With this Watts pump, seems we run less than a gallon now before the hot water is there.. It will take a long time to pay for itself in saved water, but is already well on the way to being worth the cost in loss of time and frustration..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Pump - Hot water almost instantly Our home has very long runs from our hot water tank to the kitchen, master bath and laundry room. This system keeps the hot water circulating through the pipes so there is no long wait time any more. This is the second pump I have owned. The first lasted several years running 24/7. We do not use the timer as we enjoy having the "instant" hot water available whenever we need to use hot water. Our water is heated by a geothermal heating and cooling system, so it makes sense for us to keep the water moving in the pipes. We unplug the pump if we leave for more than a day. I would give the product a 5 Star rating but gave it a 4 since I needed to replace the unit after a few years. Fairly easy to install, but must have some knowledge of plumbing.

I purchased the Hot Water Recirculating System because like a lot of people, our hot water heater is in the garage at one end of the house, and the kids bath room is at the other, and getting hot water to that end of the house took about 15-20 min. I considered installing another hot water heater to solve our problem. I'm very glad I didn't! The complete system was very easy to install, and has completely solved our lack of hot water throughout the entire house. We don't use/waste water waiting for it to get hot any more. The water is hot at all sinks, tubs and showers within seconds! The pump is very quiet (I can't hear it at all), and being able to set the timer to come on just before we need hot water, and go off after we're done is perfect, and saves on electricity. To install this product a person does need to have some mechanical ability, proper tools, and Teflon tape or plumbers putty. I believe most people with a little help from a friend can install this without getting a plumber. Also, youtube install videos are an immense help. My only grip: The water lines were folder over in half and twist ties together (in packaging) creating a kink in the lines. Anyone who knows how to treat soft lines know to loop them, not fold them over. I messaged out the kinks (somewhat) and water flow seems to be fine. Also, I think the water lines provided could be about 4 inches longer to make a good loop for installation based on the length of existing hot and cold water lines (to be reused in the installation process) and location of drain line. Otherwise, this is an excellent product, and I highly recommend it!

My home was already plumbed with a hot water circulation return line so it was just a matter of hooking up the pump. I did not require the installation of the under-sink bypass plumbing ( too bad I had to buy it anyway, there's no way to purchase the pump only) so I am able to avoid all the problems associated with that and no hot water pumped into my cold water line. The only problem I encountered was that initially, after a couple of hours of operation, the pump quit pushing water. I found that I had an a air bubble in the line that the pump was not powerful enough to overcome. After purging the line of air all is working well now for a few weeks. Right now I'm giving it 5 stars, but we will see how long it lasts.

After draining hot water line, I installed the pump and then a stainless flex-line with a Shark-Bite connector. Then cut the copper to length and inserted the Shark-Bite fitting onto the copper. After installing the sensor on our kitchen, I adjusted the water pressure 5-10 psi on our pressure regulator to make up for the loss in pressure due to the pump installation. It's not perfect, but for the price and ease of installation and water savings, it's worth the price.
