Answer:
This unit will function both ways, or just during power failure. You have to put the switch on the side of the unit to off. It shows a choice of ON/AUTO/OFF, ON is lights are always on AUTO is for night light feature , OFF is for power failure only

Use in power outage

This question is from White 2-Lamp Blackout and Power Failure 6 LED Safety Light

An earlier Q/A I saw said that the "Off" position ensures that the lights come on if the power goes out. In that case, how do you actually turn it Off in the event of a power outage? Say your power has gone out, the lights have come on but now you ready to go to bed: do you have to leave the lights burning constantly until the battery is dead? (Power outages here in rural NJ tend to last for several days!)

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 34 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LED safety light Light was easy to mount to the wall. Looks great and LED's are bright. Unit is more compact than our old unit which we replaced with this one. Very satisfactory product. October 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by power blackout light Fortunately, we haven't needed it yet, but we did test it and it worked perfectly August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Automatic Emergency Light and/or night light I bought this unit and of course didn't read the instructions but got it working in no time. This light has some options I don't know why they put in. For one, even though the unit comes with 2 adjustable light heads, you can set it up so only the left one illuminates or both. Why someone would only need 1 light of the 2 lights only doesn't make sense but the option is there. Another option is to have the emergency light turn on at half brightness when it gets dark in the room and then it will brighten if the power goes out. I use the setting for both lights turning on only if the power goes out to the unit. You can tell the power is on by the red power indicator light on the lower front corner. If power fails, both lights illuminate at full power. Mounting can be done by 2 screws in the wall allowing you to lift and drop it into position or you can use the high mounts (above the main case) to secure it so it can't be lifted up off of the wall. The illumination is plenty bright in the dark for anyone to see what they are doing. You won't be able to read by it of course but it will allow you to safely move around. PROS: - Compact size - 2 light heads adjustable - 6v internal rechargeable battery - long light illumination duration - plug into any wall outlet within about 6 feet - can be mounted on wall or ceiling - red power light on front indicates power to unit - can set to power fail illumination and/or night light mode - can be turned on manually to work in area CON: - must be used with included wall wart which plugs into right side of unit August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by best power failure light ever I am really pleased with the usefulness and the battery life. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what I was looking for! Being used as emergency lighting in our horse barn when the power goes out. Has all the features we wanted, like long battery life, and is an exceptional value. April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Let there be light This lighting device is the perfect solution for Long Beach where So. California Edison manufactures blackouts with appalling frequencyt. March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great light for when power goes out This light supplements one we have in another part of the house. We have a backup generator and it's good to have a light automatically come on when the power goes out. Installation is a breeze just mount it and plug the cord into a socket. You should charge it first before installing it. January 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good for non hot wired emergency lighting Easy to mount, but suggest verifying length of cord before attaching to a wall. Cord length limits where you can locate the lights. October 20, 2015
