We have a corner of our basement that gets wet during heavy storms. The amount of water is small enough that it could be sucked up with a shop vac, but still enough to do damage to carpeting. Will this sensor detect a pool of water lying on a flat surface or must the sensor be covered with water in order to trip an alarm?

Answer:
The Ideal water sensors are very sensitive to water. Just a drop of water will trigger the sensor. In most cases, wetting your finger and touching the sensor is enough for a trigger. The Ideal water sensor is perfect for your application.

Answer:
The SK616 will send out a wireless signal and sound the integrated alarm for 45 seconds when water is detected at the probe.
If the probe remains submerged in water, the SK616 will not send any signal nor sound the alarm.
SK616 will reset itself once water is no longer detected at the probe (water is gone or probe is out of the water).

Hi watercontrol,
Adding extra wire may reduce the sensitivity of the alarm and is not recommended.

Rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by water alarm I was looking for a reliable water alarm. ... This ideal security alarm isfeature rich. You can use it as a stand alone unit or you can pair it with their auto dialer and have it call you (and anyone else you setup) if the sensor is triggered. As a stand alone unit it has a very loud siren that can also be used in conjunction with the one on the auto dialer. It comes with all the parts needed, best of all is a stencil with the screws position marked for hassle free drillingthe holes for mounting the unit. Setting up was fairly easy and wick. The product also shipped quickly and arrived really fast too. Overall my experience was great. The unit works as advertised down to calling the designated numbers. January 3, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't bother This seemed like the perfect alarm system for us. Unfortunately, one sensor never worked and due to the positioning in the basement, it barely sent a signal to the rest of the house. The ability to dial the phone was a wonderful feature. Sadly, with one sensor not working, the system was no good for us. January 27, 2015
