$28.28 /each

Frequently Bought Together

Product Overview

Unnecessary nicks in armored cable wire insulation cause rework, call-backs and possible arc-faults. The Sir Nickless Armored Cable Cutter protects armored cable wires. By drawing wires down, creating an air space above the wires, providing room for the cutting blade to shear through and sever the armored casing without nicking the wires within.

  • Handles all common BX, MCAP, MC and flex cables
  • Blade cuts armor without damage to internal conductors
  • Splices cleanly through casing with only a few turns
  • Handle knob stores up to six replacement blades

When I asked about replacement blades at Home Depot they referred me to the 800 # in the product brochure (800-435-0705, the Customer Service # at Ideal mfg). Also, Ideal's website has a store locator that uses your zipcode. Too bad Home Depot doesn't have them. From the ads I've seen, a pack of 5 blades costs about the same as the tool. The blade tends to wear more in the region that's cutting as the crank handle is moving down towards the hand that's holding the tool because that's when you tend to put more pressure on the holder that presses the cable against the blade. The blade has a hexagonal hole, so it can be re-oriented 5 times to get the most use out of it before discarding.
Also worth pointing out:
The teeth are tiny and they take tiny bites, so more pressure doesn't make them cut faster. It also doesn't help fix the cable in the tool - that's the cable holder's job, but your fingers against the side of the cable in the handle do help. Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job geat This is a great way to split MC, BX. Not any different then my Green Lee I just wore out. Very light and quick to use. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Almost as easy as opening a can of beans Makes a quick and easy job of cutting the sheath of AC and MC cable without damaging the insulation or wires. I've been using it for 3 weeks now on my home wiring project and it's worked perfectly every time. While the operation of this tool is fairly obvious, the instructions provided are a bit sparse. The photos and captions below are intended to help with this. I find it expedient to adjust the cable holder for each use, loosening it for easy insertion of the cable and snugging it up again prior to cutting. There is a spring and pivot to facilitate this, but I find it easier to do it this way than to find the adjustment that works properly without ever touching the knob. The time required to do this is maybe 2-3 seconds, but I still counted it as a con. I didn't illustrate this step in the photos. The design could be altered to eliminate this, but I don't think the improvement would justify the cost increment. August 22, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by No what we expected For the description, it is not what we thought it would be, might be a bit of our fault, but from description it did not really tell us it was not what we were looking for. It might be awesome for the right person and the right project. September 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use, great price, save a lot of time. I have never use one of these tools before and seen it on youtube. I was installing mc cable and wanted something to cut it and this is great. Adjust the depth and start cutting. It saved me alot of time and trouble and was super easy to use. Nice product. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Can strip MC faster than I can strip Romex I will never do without this tool again. It is worth every penny. Clean, fast cuts every time. Haven't nicked a conductor yet, although I've only used it a few times. The only con: set screw (controls depth of cut) was so tight I partially stripped the head upon first use. It's like they used locktite at the factory. April 3, 2013
