It would probably be better to run the disposer WITH the cartridges, that's why the unit was purchased in the first place. I ordered extras to keep on hand. The unit WILL function without them.

Hi Kathy,

If you do have a septic system, using the Bio Charge cartridges will allow it to add if bit of the Bio Charge compound to your food wastes that will help with the functioning and maintenance of your septic system. Again the Bio Charge cartridge does not need to be installed for the disposal to funtion normally. I hope I was able to answer your question.

Answer:
With the unit OFF try reverse turning the motor using supplied wrench. From the underside of disposal unit in center bottom place wrench and confirm that unit freely turns left to right. If unit moves freely and you have pressed the reset button check power at outlet some households have GFI plug or separate breaker in power panel.

The unit comes with an "S" shaped wrench that fits in the very center of the bottom of the disposer. insert this wrench and turn... this should free the disposer for normal use.

Evolution Septic Assist 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 322.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's quite & very well engineered The best news since the invention of pockets. Having to live on Septic system is always a mess in the kitchen as we have to package up the all the food waste which we still do but to be able have grind up the small pieces is what I have been waiting for years. It is so nice to have a spotless sink now. Plus it is so quite you cannot hardly hear it run. Have not had it long enough to tell you how attached solution tank works yet. I love it so far !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome unit! We recently moved to the lakes where we have a septic system/drain field and we were afraid we would not be able to have a garbage disposal, but after doing research we found the insinkerator was compatible with a septic system. That made me one happy wife because I don't know what I would do without a garbage disposal. Love, love, love this unit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great noise reduction over previous model Our old one plugged up on thanksgiving & we ordered this new one & had to wait a week so we were w/o onefor a week! When the new one arrived there were a few changes from the previous model, our sink configuration has a small sink on the left which is shallow with the insinkerator the right sink is standard & the dish washer is to the right of that. The new tube from the dish washer had to be bent to meet the opening which was higher than the older one, the. New one was shorter. The shorter model allowed for more storage under which is a plus. The new unit is more silent which is great. All in all we are happy with the new style.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have a septic system - this products is for you..... Browsed the internet to try and find a replacement for our garbage disposal, and low and behold Home Depot had the product we were looking for. First we thought if it was on the internet we would be able to find in the store. We looked in two different Home Depot's, and none were available for us to check out in person, in the stores we were told to order on line. We did so, and could not be happier. It truly is quiet, more so than our old one, and love the continuous feed. We highly recommend this disposal for any and all septic systems... A definite WINNER..............

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quiet unit with added bonus of septic assist. A quite operating unit. The only drawback I have found is its lifespan. This is the fourth unit I have purchased and installed since 2000. The last three units needed replacing because of apparent electrical motor problems that blew the electrical breaker every time you switch the unit on. ALL OF THE UNITS I HAVE OWNED HAVE NEVER JAMMED UP OR GOTTEN STUCK. I rarely, if ever, put disposable items into my septic system. However I do use the disposal maybe a few times a week just to keep it clear of any small items that might go into it. I compost everything I can compost.
