It would probably be better to run the disposer WITH the cartridges, that's why the unit was purchased in the first place. I ordered extras to keep on hand. The unit WILL function without them.

Hi Kathy,

If you do have a septic system, using the Bio Charge cartridges will allow it to add if bit of the Bio Charge compound to your food wastes that will help with the functioning and maintenance of your septic system. Again the Bio Charge cartridge does not need to be installed for the disposal to funtion normally. I hope I was able to answer your question.

Answer:
With the unit OFF try reverse turning the motor using supplied wrench. From the underside of disposal unit in center bottom place wrench and confirm that unit freely turns left to right. If unit moves freely and you have pressed the reset button check power at outlet some households have GFI plug or separate breaker in power panel.

The unit comes with an "S" shaped wrench that fits in the very center of the bottom of the disposer. insert this wrench and turn... this should free the disposer for normal use.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 260 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works very well and is surprisingly quiet! It is pretty large due to its capacity and HP. I had to be a little creative to get it under the raised floor bowel in the double sink. It is pretty heavy for the same reasons, so its nice to have someone help hold down the fitting while you lift the disposal into place and attach it to the sink. It's too early to tell about power consumption, etc. September 1, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bought this as a gift I purchased this septic assist garbage disposal as a gift for my daughter and son-in-law. They love it. They said it is relatively quiet (for a garbage disposal) and works extremely well. It feels and appears very heavy duty. They're very happy with it and now I'm considering purchasing one for our home. December 28, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Install first thoughts and tip Installation : Product is a little heavy, mounting was straight forward, time to install 30-45 minutes on new cast iron Kohler hartland sink. Size is large - depth and diameter, confirm clearance for changing the bio dispencer before installing, flang hole on sink was not center. Since the pipe outlet is 180 degress of bio cartrige the cartrige eject button is facing left 1/4" from cabinet wall in 36" base cabinet. If installing included flang confirm screws being used, either long for stainless sink or short for cast iron sink. Would be nice if manufactor included easy switch option for magnetic or switched ON/OFF. Some items are not included with this $ pricey $ unit so don't forget to purchase a cord Model # CRD-00 Internet # 100041635 Store SKU # 118714 & plumbers putty if replacing sink flang. Product did include one BIO cartige. Noise rating is correct for this unit compared to other same size units Level 2.5 unloaded. February 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Insinkerator Evolution with Septic Assist This is the only unit that I found specifically for septic systems - the unit is powerful and quiet, easy to install and performs wonderfully. Everything you need is contained in the package, less the power cord which is purchased separately. The installation instructions are more than adequate and provide installation options. October 23, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good investment This is the quietest disposal I've every used/heard - nice feature to be able to use with septic system - been a great help in keeping the kitchen clean. Worth the upgrade!! October 27, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet operation and perfect for my septic system This is a perfect unit for aseptic system. Quiet operation too. October 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by replacement of well worn product This is a very good product. I am surprised that so many home owners with septic tanks do not realize that garbage disposals can be used. The owner just has to be careful to not grind meat fat and bones. September 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Septic Assist This is our second Septic Assist garbage disposal with the first lasting 18 years. We are convinced that it keeps our septic tank in good working order. This new model is even better in that it is whisper quiet and even more efficient. August 25, 2015
