Customer Questions & Answers

can I lay this flooring down over existing old linoleum and peel and stick tiles? or do I have to rip up all the old flooring?

Asked by: Anonymous
You can lay this flooring over existing floor vinyl or stick down tile. Just make sure everything is at the same level (IE if floor has multiple layers of flooring and some layers have been removed and others have not). I laid it over old stick-down tile in my kitchen and bath 2 years ago and it looks great. As long as your old flooring is at the same level, you will be fine.

Would this flooring be advisable for a bathroom also?

I am wanting new flooring in the bathroom as well as kitchen. Would this work ok for both?
Asked by: Anonymous
I installed it in my two bathrooms and have even had a commode over flow on it once to my horror, but it did not harm it at all and it still looks great. It has been down a couple of years and the overflow happened a year ago.

If they are the same product, why are priced significantly different?

You get what you pay for. Cheap laminate is not the same as expensive laminate.

I have a cabin that is left cold in the winter for periods at a time. Can I use this flooring or if not what can happen to it?
Asked by: Sue
I have a cabin also, that is cold most of the time in the winter. I have this flooring in my sunroom at home, however, I have used two different inexpensive laminates in my cabin. I have no problems in the winter, and only one spot that gets tight and buckles only slightly in the summer, when the moisture level in the cabin is high. The reason this happens is that I installed that section a little tight on the ends. In my opinion, you will be OK with any laminate, as long as you leave space all around for expansion and contraction. We have been very happy with this particular flooring, where we used it. It is a nice, thick, high quality floor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product is good, wife loves it, great stone look We looked at many floors and the Tuscan Stone was the one for us, The wife and I installed it over the rainy Memorial Day weekend, it was very easy. The floor looks great, the pieces went together well, hard to see the seams. This was our first time installing a floating floor, we followed all installation instructions, and expect many years of use. Highly recommend for the DIY.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great looking floor I bought enough of this flooring to do the kitchen, dining area, utility room, hall, and both bathrooms. It has been down for more than a couple of years now and it still looks great. I even had a commode overflow once and it did not do any damage to it. The flooring went down fairly easy but you did have to work at it a little to get it to snap together properly but because the pieces were so big, you covered a lot of square footage in a hurry so that made up for the minor difficulty in installing. This stuff is very durable too, I slid a side by side refrigerator across it and it did not scratch. The only reason this does not get 5 stars was because of the price, at nearly $4 a square foot it is fairly expensive, but I would do it again because of the look and quality. Ken

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tuscan Stone Terra Ok, so this wasn't my first attempt and past experience made things move pretty well. First I admit that I laid this over a combination surface of new flooring 23/32nds. and carpet glue in another area. The foam base layer on this produce is pretty forgiving on minimal surface irregularities. First step is make sure all surfaces are clean!! Next, eat two bowls of Wheaties and an extra vitamin. I made all my measurements and markings are on the back (foam side) and cut accordingly. Using a circular saw on the smooth finished side will leave a poor, chipped finish... I do not recommend unless all cuts will fall under the base-board and not be seen. Just make sure you follow the enclosed, very tiny print instructions... that without my bi-focals looks exactly like the second translation in Spanish. It took me about 11 hours to put down almost 500 sq. ft. Not something I would want to do regularly, but it did turn out nice enough that I can be proud of the outcome. Oh! The color has more grey than I expected but I (and family) can live with it. Too bad they don't send accurate samples before the purchase!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product. Similar to Dupont RealTouch I purchased 120sq ft of the Dupont RealTouch about 8 months ago for my mudroom and loved it. Very durable, easy to install and great to look at. The difference between Dupont and Innovations is the finish. This is more of a matte finish where-as the Dupont was more high gloss. I have 4 children and this floor is super durable. It hasn't delaminated or bubbled from water or boots or sand or anything. Looks as good as the day I installed it. The important thing to consider when installing it is to make sure that you keep the piece elevated at the angle to get the tongue and groove to meet. If you try to match the tongue and groove together on the same plane, it will not connect. I found it easier to install the narrow side first (width) and then lift up long side to insert that into the next piece. I had 340 sq ft of floor to install and used 400 sq ft in the install. I made a couple of mistakes, but then couldn't reuse the piece. I would suggest more than the recommended 10% waste...probably 20%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid floor, Wide planks, Installs easy, cuts smooth, high quality, planks blend well This floor is great! The pattern ends up being very random so you can barely tell where the seams are located. This makes it easier to install because you don't have to stagger at a specific length (just a minimum length) so their is a LOT LESS waste than other floors where you need to stagger at a specific length from the previous row. They fit together very well and the 'lip' does not get damaged easily. (I didn't finish a threshold until a month or so later and even though the lip was damaged a little it still held the finish piece well and did not separate) We have a small kitchen so the cost was not a huge concern & we went with something a bit more expensive than we would in a larger room. IT WAS WORTH THE PRICE! I've put in about 5 of these floors and all the others had planks that were half the width/price. The edges would get chipped when cutting or when tapping into place with the pull bar. Not a single one of these planks chipped, cracked, or didn't have clean cuts. You definitely have to make sure that your floor is level. I had to pull up 3 inches of previous flooring and I thought I had leveled it out with new sub-flooring but I did not. When you walk over that section the floor bows so I need to pull it up and put more sub-flooring down to bring it up level with the rest of the sub-floor. Minor inconvenience since these floors just float. Well worth price and a breeze to install! My wife was pleasantly surprise when she returned from her shopping trip and I was already done.
