Received this aerator yesterday. Had shipped to home. Box was tore in several places. Aerator was dinged and dented in a few spots from shipping apparently. A few bolts and nuts were missing. Went and bought some to replace. One wheel is a little crooked. The bracket may need to be bent back out some. I understand that it is a heavy product. But for what it costs you would think that they could ship it in a heavier box and more padding. The aerator works as it should. Pulled out 2-3" plugs. I used 4x8x16" solid concrete blocks, that added just under 200 lbs for extra weight. Pulled behind john deere z445 zero turn. Other than packaging i would reccomend this product. If you are on the fence on which aerator to buy. This is the heaviest that i have found. Didnt wanna buy a cheap one that probably wouldnt last. Hopefully this one lasts like it should.

I made two attempts at purchasing this product using in-store pick-up. On both occasions the product arrived with damaged to the shipping packaging and a defective lift handle. It was too wide for the mount bracket. On the first attempt, in addition to the defect above it was also missing several fasteners. So the product was returned both times and I am now looking elsewhere.
Before purchasing you should be aware of two things: first, this is a licensed product made by Brinly. I have never been overly impressed by their product. Second - be aware that if you use a gift card for the online purchase they will only issue a store credit if the item has to be returned. And you can't use store credit for online purchases.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rooster Works well, time will tell with durability.
This unit is heavier built than the similar 48" unit from same manufacturer under their name. This JD unit has extra support braces from tray down to axle to support the heavier weight as rated. I have done about three acres so far with 6 12" concrete blocks as ballast, about 235#. The specifications here on Home Depot say the depth of penetration is NOT adjustable, but that is not correct. The wheels can be set to lift the tines well off the ground for transport and can be fully raised for maximum penetration (lever below lower pin) or placed in 3 alternate positions for partial penetration (lever on the lower pin, lever between the two pins, level on upper pin, and lever resting on top of upper pin. In the "higher" positions the wheels support the tines above max depth. With the designed tine spacing, the tines are very close to the outer walls supporting the main axle and this can cause a bind in sharp turns due to turf tearing and jamming that tine set, causing it to did a trench instead of turning. Re-arranging the time sets and how some tines are attached to the tine plates can resolve that, but a response to a question above says such may void warranty. To get a better core aerator, the cost skyrockets for one to fit a larger 3 pt hitch tractor or Ventrac tractor.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by landscaper Dollar for dollar, it's a pretty good machine
Had her up and running in less than 40 mins. Deeply moist soil and six concrete blocks on the tray are a must for aerating success. Pretty strong build for the price. JD should have added 2-4 more tines per tine wheel for smoother aerating, but hardly a serious draw back. Making 2 perpendicular passes I pulled out 3-4" plugs on irrigated lawn. 27 hp exmark pulled it with ease. We will see how it holds up to 50 hrs of use per year.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Justin Good service, acceptable performance.
For a tow-behind aerator, this is likely the best you'll find. It has a good width, to cover a lot of ground faster than you could with a rental (walk behind) aerator, and 12 spoon wheels, each with 4 spoons, to get a reasonable density of plugs per pass. The penetration depth, advertised as up to 3 inches, was more like 1-1/2 inches, due to the aerator riding on the wheels when lowered for aerating. I'll take a look sometime to see if this can be improved.
The aerator was easy to assemble, but one of the two tow bars was missing from the box (possibly fell out during shipping). Brinley-Hardy, who apparently makes this for John Deere, was quick to ship the missing part to me with no additional cost. Good service!

Aerator is well constructed and holds plenty of weight to drive the spoons into the ground. Assembly directions could have been a little more clear but it still only took about 30 minutes to assemble. This aerator made be built to specs set by John Deere but it is actually built by Brinley.

Was very easy to assemble! Did come with a slight bend in the axle that holds one of the wheels. I called Brinley-Hardy, who makes this Aerator, and they sent me out a new axle within a few days. They also threw in a few extra tines. Best Customer service I have ever had. I have already done my yard and a very large soccer field and this thing did a great job.

Researched a few tow behinds for our 6 acre property and glad we decided on this one. It holds the most weight for this price point and is built well. Thick metal spikes did not break or bend after aerating our compact & rocky soil. We went over it a few times in the extremely compact area after a good rain, which is key! Averaged 3" deep plugs and can't wait to see the effect it has on our grass in the spring time!!
