Yes, the hose stays connected. It cannot detach from the handshower. It rotates with the handle during use.

Answer:
The hose connects via a threaded joint. If you want to use a different hose, you can disconnect. If you want to use the hose forever, you can connect it and forget it (you won't have an issues with it coming disconnected through normal us).

I just installed mine with no issues. Just make sure the rubber washers are on each side of the hose before connecting. Because this is plastic connectors and hand tightened, you may need to re-tighten occasionally as the parts will expand and shrink with the temperature changes.

What am I doing wrong? Am I not tightening them enough? The directions say not to over-tighten. I can get the holder part screwed on to my shower thing OK. No water leaks from that (I did use the screen thing). But water comes from both ends where the hose is connected. You can probably tell I'm not a DIY kind of a girl, but I thought I would give it a try.

If you still have leaks with both washers installed you can try a little white plumbers tape. Wrap it around the "male" parts of the diverter and the wand part before you connect the hose. If you are still having problems, then either your water pressure is too high or you got a defective one. Take it back and try again.
Listen, if it still doesn't work, call a plumber and have them install it. It will cost some money, but make sure you tell them you want to know how to do it. Make them show you. Next time, you will know. Read Less

Did you wrap the threaded connections with Teflon tape? That usually stops leaks. When he installed our handshower, my husband had to gently tighten the fitting that attaches to the pipe that comes out of the wall with a wrench, as that connection leaked. You have to be careful not to over-tighten, obviously, but hand tightening as per the directions was not sufficient.

Sounds like you're missing the rubber washer at the connection points. Check your box or take the hose to HD. They'll give you the washer you need. With the washer, tightening by hand should give you leak free connections.

There are two small black rubber gasket that need to be used at each end. I found they fell of the hose as I lifted it from the packaging. You'll need to find those two gaskets and use them at each end.

If you are like me, you may have lost the rubber washers in each end of the hose. They are easy to lose track of once the tape is removed. Look for them on the floor where you unpacked the handshower box.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This Awaken Handshower is not going to define your shower Kohler has several models of the Awaken Handshower. This one is the value model and my opinion would be to trade up to a better model if you can. The shower head itself is nice to look at with simple controls and feels good to hold. However, this model comes with a plastic hose and fittings which may not last long. The hose can kink and will not flex to drape down the wall of the shower. The showerhead has 3 settings and each provide a nice spray pattern with differing amounts of concentrated or disbursed pressure. Also, with the plastic fittings, only hand tighten the parts. As the parts warm and cool with use, the fittings may need to be re-tightened occasionally. October 25, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Junk. Thankfully it was used a short time. I purchased this hand held shower because I was going to be having surgery and would need to sit on a shower chair instead of standing up. This shower leaked from the swivel point unless it was held in one spot. Of course, I was unable to hold it there...since I was in a cast and could not stand! Thankfully, I only needed it for a month and then I threw it in the garbage. I would not recommend this product unless you only needed it for a month like I did. February 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Just average I simply can't agree with the other reviewers. This is just a basic handshower. For the money it isn't too bad, but has shortcomings that I can't live with. The "hose" is more like an almost rigid pipe, very unflexible and difficult to maneuver in a small shower stall. Being so rigid, it also gets in the way of any items that may be nearby, like soap, shampoo, washcloth, etc. I spent too much time picking them up and finally took this item out of the shower. There are much better ones to be bought, although they may cost more. D....a comes to mind. See my review on that one soon. I always thought of Kohler as a quality brand but I guess things have changed. Be careful when you unpack the package because you can easily lose the screened rubber washers inserted in the hose ends. I spent 20 minutes to find one that had rolled under the vanity. August 21, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This Old House meets A Simple Design towards modern renovation. Unboxed and installed in less than 5 minutes. A handheld shower is one of my favorite updates to a bathroom. It was an easy install. The directions say to hand tighten. Water pressure was not tested for this review. The only extra item I used was plumber's thread sealant tape. I will be removing this when I paint the walls. I found flaking drywall behind the wall paper and I 've delayed to test for moisture before I paint. This Kohler design is big, shiny and looks like a small flying saucer. I received exactly what I ordered, yet a longer shower cord to accommodate my kids with 4 paws would be better. The plastic cased cord is about 4' 9", with a head 11" beyond that. The weight is balanced, both the shower head and the cord being light. The hand shower this replaced had a head that was heavier, the head kept falling out of the cradle. I test these by setting the shower head in the cradle and yanking the cord around. This large head stays seated in the cradle as it pivots and turns. It isn't a professional test but it is what I would be doing if I stepped into this shower with a cat! On a budget, I can't completely update the bathtub or the chrome glass doors. I'm blending designs by making everything white or silver and shiny. This should allow the last updates, of a bath and tile to add color, drama or more modern designs to a basic white and chrome bathroom. In one word, SHINY. October 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Improvement to my shower Kohler came through again! After five years our shower spray died. The sprayer is a pleasant addition to our shower. May 27, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value for the price The tab used to switch settings is easy to use. Our previous shower head had a dial that was hard to use when your hands are wet or soapy. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love it! Really does wake you up in the morning. Easy to install. I just picked this up at the store because I really didn't like my existing shower head. I love the power of the spray. December 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TYPICAL KOHLER PRODUCT FIRST CLASS NOT THE CHEAPEST SHOWER HEAD BUT ITS FIRST CLASS AND YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, EASY TO INSTALL AND LOOKS REALLY GOOD CHROME. December 8, 2015
