Customer Questions & Answers

does the hose stay connected?

Asked by: molly
Answered by: KBKB
Date published: 2015-09-20

I just installed this, and I have water leaks coming from the connections at both ends of the hose.

What am I doing wrong? Am I not tightening them enough? The directions say not to over-tighten. I can get the holder part screwed on to my shower thing OK. No water leaks from that (I did use the screen thing). But water comes from both ends where the hose is connected. You can probably tell I'm not a DIY kind of a girl, but I thought I would give it a try.
Asked by: AnneB
There are a couple of washers that should have been included. They go on both ends of the hose. If you didn't get them in the box, you can get some replacements for cheap. If you still have leaks with both washers installed you can try a little white plumbers tape. Wrap it around the "male" parts of the diverter and the wand part before you connect the hose. If you are still having problems, then either your water pressure is too high or you got a defective one. Take it back and try again. Listen, if it still doesn't work, call a plumber and have them install it. It will cost some money, but make sure you tell them you want to know how to do it. Make them show you. Next time, you will know.

accessories? hose and showerarm attachment

is there no hose and shower arm attachment offered for this shower head? I don't want mine on a bar, i want mine attached to the shower arm with a hook/bracket.
Asked by: Michelle
In the box, there is a piece called a diverter that connects from the pipe that comes out of the wall. It has a hook on it that lets you hook the handshower in. There is no bar. It does come with a metal on the inside plastic/rubber on the outside hose. Its a 5 foot hose. When you first get the hose, because of the way it was packaged it will be a little tough to straighten/bend. Once you start running warm water through it it will become more pliable.

how do I buy this whole set?

I would like to buy the shower head, separate hand held shower head, flexible hose and adjusted bar (NOT attached to the shower head). How can I buy the whole set? I will have a 3 way diverter installed.
Asked by: Tom
Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We reached out to MFG for more information and below are their response. "Hello, my name is Aimee with Kohler Customer Service. I am happy to assist you with your hand shower question. If you prefer to order the entire kit, you would need to purchase model 99243-CP, which includes the handshower, hose, and slidebar. The showerhead would still need to be ordered separately, as we do not have a kit that includes that. Please work with your local Home Depot for pricing and availability on this product. Thank you for choosing the Bold Look of KOHLER."

Customer Reviews

Awaken 3-spray Multifunction Hand Shower in Polished Chrome is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple and Effective This is an easy to use, easy install hand shower. "Awaken" is a perfect name for it as the water pressure is excellent and you can choose from 3 settings to get your day started. I have even used it to bathe my heavily-furred canine companions and it is very effective in removing all the shampoo residue which a weaker stream could not. It is light weight and easy to handle. The only thing that I am not a fan of is the 5 ft hose being plastic material as opposed to stainless so I will give it 4 stars. Overall a simple, inexpensive, yet effective product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Kohler Awaken is the best hand held that we... The Kohler Awaken is the best hand held that we have ever used. This is the second one we have purchased. The first one lasted for years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This Awaken Handshower is not going to define your shower Kohler has several models of the Awaken Handshower. This one is the value model and my opinion would be to trade up to a better model if you can. The shower head itself is nice to look at with simple controls and feels good to hold. However, this model comes with a plastic hose and fittings which may not last long. The hose can kink and will not flex to drape down the wall of the shower. The showerhead has 3 settings and each provide a nice spray pattern with differing amounts of concentrated or disbursed pressure. Also, with the plastic fittings, only hand tighten the parts. As the parts warm and cool with use, the fittings may need to be re-tightened occasionally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior Shower Head! I adore this shower head; I feel like I am in a spa within my own shower! I also appreciate that there are only 3 settings from which to choose vs some of these 12 setting units. In truth, that drives me crazy trying to find which setting I wish to use! I have long thick hair and setting #2 rinses my hair beautifully while #1 offers me the overall spa feeling and #3 has enough power to zone in on my sore shoulder. I am very pleased with this shower head; it is totally effective, simple to use and looks good as well! THANK YOU!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just average I simply can't agree with the other reviewers. This is just a basic handshower. For the money it isn't too bad, but has shortcomings that I can't live with. The "hose" is more like an almost rigid pipe, very unflexible and difficult to maneuver in a small shower stall. Being so rigid, it also gets in the way of any items that may be nearby, like soap, shampoo, washcloth, etc. I spent too much time picking them up and finally took this item out of the shower. There are much better ones to be bought, although they may cost more. D....a comes to mind. See my review on that one soon. I always thought of Kohler as a quality brand but I guess things have changed. Be careful when you unpack the package because you can easily lose the screened rubber washers inserted in the hose ends. I spent 20 minutes to find one that had rolled under the vanity.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice water pressure Love the styling and the water pressure. Realized after it was up that there isn't a turn off option. Would like to have had that option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best I've seen in this price range I originally purchased this handshower 4 years ago. I have used it pretty much every day since, and I have never had a problem. It does not leak and like all the handshowers, it is very simple to install. Last weekend the selector switch broke. Water still flowed, but I could not change the water pattern. I have a very high calcium content in my water and things do tend to degrade over time. 4 years is great for a handshower under $50. I did a lot of internet research, and then I went into the local HD store and purchased a Moen as a replacement. It had some excellent reviews. I installed it and was impressed with the all metal hose. But that was the limit to the great features. Despite the Kohler Awaken and the Moen both saying they are low flow, water coming from the Moen was almost like having to take a shower in the rain. Of the six water patterns on the Moen, 2 were almost usable. It took me much much longer to wash the soap off. After 2 days, I took the Moen back and bought another Kohler awaken. The install was simple, and I went ahead and reused the hardware all except the wand piece from my previous unit. I will save the other pieces as spares. This handshower has 3 settings. The first is your general shower head wide, there is a narrow massage setting, or wash setting as I like to call it, and a middle of the road rinse setting. There is more than enough water pressure to get clean. I have actually installed this same handshower last time I visited my brother. He had a failing showerhead in his guest bathroom. I went out and and picked one of these up and put it in for him. I highly highly recommend this handshower, and I am strongly debating going and picking up a couple of spares just in case.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk. Thankfully it was used a short time. I purchased this hand held shower because I was going to be having surgery and would need to sit on a shower chair instead of standing up. This shower leaked from the swivel point unless it was held in one spot. Of course, I was unable to hold it there...since I was in a cast and could not stand! Thankfully, I only needed it for a month and then I threw it in the garbage. I would not recommend this product unless you only needed it for a month like I did.
