Answer:
if you do caulk, leave a one inch gap towards the back of the toilet in case it does leak. That way you'll know if there's a leak.

No, If it ever leaks from the base you won't spot the water until it rots your floor or ruins the ceiling downstairs or both.

I know this is an old question but it always seems to get asked and gets a lot of disagreement. So my two cents. I have installed hundreds of toilets and the majority of them have been caulked because the majority of them have to be shimmed in some manner due to variations in the concrete floor or the toilet bowl base itself. If it is a wood floor and somewhat wobbly itself, shimming and caulking may not help at all. I use soft shims that are designed for that purpose and cut easily with a box knife when in place, I have also used regular builders wood shims in a pinch. The caulking not only hides the shims but also helps hold them in place. I leave about a 2" gap on the back side of the toilet uncaulked so the water can seep out if the (wax or other) seal ever fails. Having said the above, that doesn't mean caulking is always necessary for stability, but some plumbing codes require caulking or a watertight seal. As a plumber, I hate it when I run across a toilet that I have to pull that has been grouted in place, latex based caulking removes easily with a razor blade paint scraper. The more you are trying to hide the more caulking required and the more difficult to make it look like it isn't even there. I also use clear caulking if I am not trying to hide the shims. Read Less

Answer:
Even though it is not required, I always lay a bead of clear latex around the base just to keep unwanted water and urine from seeping under it. Use a wet rag and remove all but a fine bead with your finger and you don't notice it. It takes all of 5 minutes and may eliminate unwanted odors.

Answer:
If you mount the base correctly to the wax ring then there is no need for any caulk. Caulk would only help keep gases from escaping from underneath the base but if you are getting gases then you mounted it to the wax ring wrong or you are using the wrong size wax ring. Of course, if it makes you happy feel free to caulk away.

No, caulk is not required and usually only makes the toilet look messy. You can caulk if you like that look, but professionals do not caulk toilets to the floor.

Hi Pepper52. My name is Tiffany from Kohler Co. I am happy to help answer your question about the Cimarron Dry lock plate. This is the tank to bowl connection. The bolts are to secure the tank to the bowl, do not do through the tank, but rather to the plate below the tank. Thank you for choosing The Bold Look of KOHLER.

Answer:
I believe this refers to how the tank and bowl connect together (Dry-lok) system. Basically it has a metal bracket under the tank where screws slide into. They go through holes in the base, and are secured underneath the ledge (Which the tank sets). A standard tank to base connection has holes through the bottom of the tank, which require rubber washers to seal the holes.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really great I recently had my bathroom remodeled so I did not install this my self. Workers had no problem with the installation. I like the higher toilet and really like not having to use so much water anymore for the flushing process. The only problem I have with it is when the seat is closed, I often am raising both the lid and the seat when I am trying to open just the lid. This is probably due to my arthritic fingers. So Intend to put my wooden toilet seat on it. . August 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install, saves water, very quiet, looks great It came with all the parts, but I did buy a better wax ring with a rubber collar. The tank does not have holes for the bolts that hold it to the bowl. It has a metal bracket on the bottom that holds the bolts, so the chance of leaks is greatly reduced. THe tank to bowl gasket is wide and matches the gasket fastened to the tank. THe seat was easy to bolt to the bowl too, and comes off easily for cleaning. THe flush handle takes just a quick push for yellow water. Hold the handle a half second for a greater amount of flush water. Fills fast and quietly. Looks beautiful! THe extra height is nice as I am tall. The flush parts in the tank are all assembled and ready to use. You can adjust the water level by simply turning a knob. July 18, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by While the toilet looks nice, it is too high. Plus the seat is extremely uncomfortable. The round bowl is nice and small and it fits in our second bathroom, however the height is too high for our child. Since we had to pay for it to be installed I will now try to find a new toilet seat and simply buy a step stool. I wish there were a way for people to try the height before they buy (this was not advertised as a chair height one). I cannot recommend it. October 25, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Kohler Like the American standard cadet 3 better for the money. The insides are more complicated than typical toilet and I feel will not be easy to replace/repair parts. Plus the flush needed more hold time on the lever than the American standard model. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very pleased with this toilet. Easy to install. It has a quick flush with less water. Remodeled the master bathroom with this toilet and was so pleased with it that we bought another one for the guest bathroom. Highly recommend! October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to use. Low water use. October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best toilet we have ever had The flush is fast and quiet and it uses very little water compared to the one that was replaced. The styling looks good also. We were concerned that not everything in the bowl would be flushed down but that is not an issue. There is no more flapper to get stuck and leak, the water comes out of the bottom of the fill valve so you do not have to worry about it spraying everywhere, and there are no more bolts going from the tank to the bowl from inside. They mount on the outside of the tank so there are no more leaks or rusted bolts. You can buy a cheaper toilet, but I do not believe you can get a better one. September 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This toilet flushes better than any other toilet I've seen. October 25, 2016
