This tester is a little pricy for no more than what it does, but it has worked flawlessly every time I have used it. I used it on every length of cable I have and it showed which ones had problems.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ProvidencePaul Worthless garbage
Quality control is garbage. After just a few months...and maybe a half-dozen uses...the unit started reading every single cable tested as having half its wires "open" (not connected). One gets one pays for, and this is cheap worthless junk.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by StLRemodeler Great investment in an excellent tool!
I bought this tester for a project at my house where I installed Ethernet wiring throughout the house. I used it to test my final connections between two points. Being my first time terminating Ethernet, I thought it wise to invest in this tool to verify my work was done properly. I'm glad I did! It helped me confirm that I had everything pinned out correctly and displayed a message of "pass" on the screen when evrything was correct. Helped me quickly identify if I had a problem somewhere, which I did a time or two. Well worth the $50! As other reviewers said, it works quickly too. Seems well built and durable too. I plan to make patch cables next, and plan to use it to verify that they will work. I opted for his model, versus the more expensive Klein models, since I only needed to use it on Ethernet wiring. My only tip for use is that you need a spare patch cable (not included) if you need to test a female connection, so that you can connect the remote or the tester to it. I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to test their wiring installations, or to test existing wiring.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MrJack quick test for wire mapping
I use this tester for testing proper wire mapping on data ports and it works easily enough. The shorted wire test is somewhat misleading if you plug into a cable that is plugged into a switch port. The instruction manual does not give really good information on this aspect. The signal for wire tracing could be stronger as well. All in all it is pretty useful if you are testing new wiring or patch cables. This is definitely not a competitor to a real cable analyzer but it is not intended to be.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Zvander Awesome tester in a small package
I bought this tester to use at work because the tester we had was hard to read and took a long time to show results. This tester is awesome! It is super-fast (old tester took about 20 - 30 seconds for results; this tester... 2 - 3 seconds). It is very simple to read (shows results as 1 - 8 instead of symbols that I had to translate on the old one) - if it is good it shows 'pass'. It will also show whether you have a crossed wire, a short, open, split, etc. It will even test cross-over cables (which I wasn't able to test on even more expensive FLUKE testers).
It may not be the cheapest (least expensive) tester out there, but you get what you pay for... and in this case, you get more then you pay for.

You can easily tell if you have your pairs crimped correctly. It could also tell if you have broken line, but not where.
