Answer:
No you don't need softened water to use this, but you can if you have the softener. I don't have one and I have hard water. I am also on city water.

Dee,
I don't quite understand what your question is. Are you asking can a water softener be connected to the unit? If so, most water softeners are connected to the main water valve in your home. This unit is just for kitchen use or, if you want you could also connect it in your master bed bathroom under your sink. I'm assuming the answer to your question is NO, this does not require the water to be softened before reaching the unit itself. Overall, this unit just purifies drinking water.

How's the flow when using existing sink faucet?

I'm looking to add an under-sink filter for a second kitchen sink. I really don't want to put in a separate spigot like most filter systesm require. The reviews here say the Kube works with the existing faucet. How's the water flow? Is there a noticeable slowdown after hooking the filter up? It seems that filtering the water will reduce the flow somewhat but curious as to how much.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:
It did "somewhat" reduce on my faucet, but not very noticeable. The reduction in flow I believe is due to the length of smaller internal diameter size tubing introduced into the flow. Because the flow was same with filter by-pass on or off.

Answer:
The Kube has to filters in which half of the incoming water enters the top filter and the other half enters the bottom filter - this allows for maximum contaminant removal without having to sacrifice water flow. You will not notice a change in your water pressure.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good, and plastic connectors people complain are easy to solve I installed this filter under kitchen sink like many others. With filter in, it still has good flow, but somewhat reduced.. It claims good filtering properties, I don't have means to verify it. The water tests better with fitler on. When time comes to replace the filters, it is designed to be easy to do. It has a scale that tells how much filter life is left, which is good. The plastic fitting that goes to the water supply, do leak because it's threaded section is too deep and doesn't allow enough compression for seal. My initial solution was to add some teflon tape to the male thread, which worked. But later I figured I could chuck that plastic connector that came with the product and use a brass 3/8 nut with compression sleeve and brass insert for the plastic pipe to connect to the 3/8 shut off valve output, which was meant to receive a compression fitting. And I did that, worked fine. The output side fitting that came with the product connects without problem to standard 3/8 faucet line. I later connected to a dedicated filtered water faucet which had 1/4 tube connection. For that I used 1/4 copper line to the faucet with the compression fitting, and 1/4 to 3/8 plastic quick-connect fitting from home depot which again didn't need to use the fitting came with the product there either. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Tasting Convenient Water! I purchased this filter after speaking with the store associate - easy to install and excellent tasting water right out of my kitchen faucet - water pressure is strong and didn't have to drill into my counter top. September 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job Bought this filter to improve the taste of Phoenix municipal water. I wanted a decent filter at a reasonable cost that was easy to install. This filter checked all those boxes. Plus it is great to not have to deal with a dedicated faucet (as in an RO system). Don't believe the reviews that say the fittings are cheap and/or that they leak. Just take your time, follow the directions, be sure you insert all the hose ends fully into the connectors, and all will be well. In five months of regular use, no leaks, and the filter gauge indicates the filters are only about 1/3 through their lives. Couldn't be happier. September 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product! We love this system! Was a little pessimistic at the thought of it, but love, love the ease of filling our kid's sport bottles. Also great when mixing large pitchers of drinks, or simply grabbing a glass of water. As far as installation, this was installed during a kitchen remodel, so our contractor did it. No feedback regarding ease, but we've had zero issues with leaks, etc. October 12, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Tastes like chalk!!! Use a TDS Meter, we have really bad water measured .0389 PPM compared with Arctic water at .0018 and Distilled water at .0000 with the same meter this was after just 3 weeks and the meter indicator only had moved 1 place... High Priced Junk!!! September 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Plastic fitting failure I am echoing the review that faulted the plastic fittings for leaking. I gave it a shot, but the male fitting kept leaking. July 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Filter and a snap to install I installed two of these filters, one in my house and one in my sons apartment. Took all of ten minutes to install each. When my son moved I transferred his to his new apartment. I set mine up before the water supply to the refrigerator. This eliminated the need for a dedicated 'refrigerator' filter which saved me about $100 per year for those filters. Still working on the originally installed cartridges after one year. My son needs to replace his every 3 or 4 months due to the dirty water supply in his building in NYC, but at least he is getting clean water now. August 1, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy install if you have the right parts Installing Kube should take maybe an hour tops. If you have all the right parts. What should have been a quick install, turned out to be a day long ordeal for me. I followed the instructions and made all connections then turned on water to let it run for the recommended length of time to flush carbon sediment from the filters. This ended up clogging my faucet and stopped water flow completely because small bits of the carbon stopped up a part of the actual faucet connection. I had to replace my kitchen faucet... To avoid this I highly recommend not making the final connection (from Kube to faucet) until you turn on the water and let it run for a few minutes into a bucket or the sink. Then make the connection once the water runs clear. Tubing: used a new blade and split it in half. This gave me enough tubing to move the unit as needed. When you connect the tubing, push in and make sure it is snug. You should feel it click. If it is not snug water WILL squirt from the fitting. Overall we like the Kube, water is clear and tastes better. Install is easy and shouldn't take long. We were able to also run the ice maker water line after the Kube, so we now have filtered water for our ice machine. August 18, 2016
