How to replace leviton 30 amp angle travel trailer plug

Pictures please
Asked by: isiabella
This requires some basic tools and skills. You might have to cut off the old plug from your power cord. Cut back the black insulation from the power cord about 4 - 5 inches from the end, being careful not to cut too deep and into the wire insulation of the 3 wires encased in the power cord. Now cut the white and black wires to the lengths shown in the direction page included with the Leviton plug. Once those are cut to length, strip the insulation off all three wires per the directions (see illustration) and twist each wire individually and connect to the individual prong per the wiring instructions. Assemble the plug.

I attempted to plug it into the RV park's power outlet (a Corps of Engineers designed park) only to find that the design of the power box would not allow the plug to fully engage in the outlet. There was a metal ledge under the holes for the 2 angled prongs that prevented the plug from seating properly. I found a compatible plug at a nearby hardware store. The park maintenance man was familiar with the Home Depot plugs and said many people had the same difficulty.

I had to replace my original RV plug which I've used without issue sing 2006. I bought this plug. You'll notice that the area below the two angled prongs is flat. That prevented me from being able to use this plug at the last campsite we went to. Search for a plug that has clearance below the 2 angled prongs. Some good ones are yellow in color.

I installed it and had to go buy a different plug to be able to power up my RV. See image submitted. The area below the two angled prongs is recessed. This was required to utilize the power outlet at the last RV park we visited.
