Can this switch used with a generator rated for 4500 watts for 120v application? What is the power rating?

This switch is double pole double throw, correct?
Asked by: Ben
4500 Watts at 120V equals 37.7 Amps which is in excess of the current rating for this device. It is a Double Pole Single Throw switch

Can I use this switch to control something like a water heater that uses single phase 240v on a 30amp circuit?

Asked by: DIYbubba
I can see no reason why not but I think the best way to go would be using the C/B panel.

However, since 10 gage wire is to be used in conjunction with this switch, I would suggest 10 gage stranded wire or if using solid wire use a large box to house the switch. It is a bit difficult to bend number 10 solid wire to seat the switch in a box standard size box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm using on a 5500 watt load Im not an expert but I shut off the main breaker to the whole house and installed this switch and I'm using it on a 240 volt 5500 watt load. It's working well and the terminals I used are the back terminals which allow the wire to be inserted and then tightened down. The screws can be tightened down no problem. This switch is model number 3032 and the wiring diagram is on the box. Circuit A 120v is on the left and circuit B 120v on the right. In case someone threw away the box The load is on top and the line(hot)is on bottom. This is just an on off switch. A larger junction box makes the difference with the 10 gauge wire. The diagram is confusing but I think I'm reading it right. I've installed the switch and everything is working. Thanks. It's best to go by the numbers on the diagram.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, works well turning a 220 volt compressor on and off! The switch was installed and working very well within 20 minutes. I'm very happy with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from dpst switch Leviton makes a good product and it was exactly what I expected. What more can you ask?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I needed This is exactly what I was looking for to control my garage heater. I was unable to find any other options that would not require the use of a relay system. This was a simple and easy way to solve the problem of reaching the controls on the heater or forgetting to turn it on the way out of the garage for the night. Instructions are listed on inside the box and are easy to read, including a diagram. The throw is heavy and I can feel the quality over the standard duty switches of the same brand. The wires were all very easy to install and overall installation was smooth. I have no issue with the switch. However, I do not like that the industrial switches do no have the small border around the switch, so it looks like there is a bad fit between the switch and the plate. Also, I was hoping that the green (or red for the 20A single pole version) would be visible to discern circuits. Therefore, it would be nice to have these specialty industrial switches in specialty colors like green, red, black, and brown (though I realize that some of those colors indicate features of the switch or the circuit it controls).
