I'd like to put this switch between my 240V water heater and the 30 amp breaker at the panel. I know I do not need a double pole / 2 circuit application but can I wire this unit with the hot (black) and neutral (white) from the panel to the "line posts" and the black and white wires from the junction box to the water heater connected to the "load posts" ? Thanks in advance.

Can I use only a single pole and still safely use up to 30 amps? Also, will it work for 28 V or anything less than 120/277 V?

Answer:
Yes: each of the two poles is rated for 30 amps AC current up to 277 volts. If you will switch DC current, reduce the rating to 15 amps, any DC voltage up to +/- 100 volts. Reason: DC holds an arc longer/farther when the switch opens

Answer:
Yes, just connect it in series with the contactor coil or if no contactor is present (unfortunate) connect it in series with the pressure switch.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I'm using on a 5500 watt load Im not an expert but I shut off the main breaker to the whole house and installed this switch and I'm using it on a 240 volt 5500 watt load. It's working well and the terminals I used are the back terminals which allow the wire to be inserted and then tightened down. The screws can be tightened down no problem. This switch is model number 3032 and the wiring diagram is on the box. Circuit A 120v is on the left and circuit B 120v on the right. In case someone threw away the box The load is on top and the line(hot)is on bottom. This is just an on off switch. A larger junction box makes the difference with the 10 gauge wire. The diagram is confusing but I think I'm reading it right. I've installed the switch and everything is working. Thanks. It's best to go by the numbers on the diagram. June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install, works well turning a 220 volt compressor on and off! The switch was installed and working very well within 20 minutes. I'm very happy with this product. June 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not the exact one I used Used a different switch from HD for power supply to radiant heat. The others with works great. December 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Double Pole, Single Throw and Affordable This switch was perfect for my home made power transfer switch for my generator. It easily handles the 6,250 watts that my dryer uses during normal operation. June 3, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Product is not industrial grade, rather cheap low quality plastic. The product is advertised as back and side mounts, but the back of the product says back mount only. Thus, it is unsuitable for side mounted wiring which is what I was looking for as a replacement. A quality replacement switch was not available at Home Depot with side mounts. Returned switch and bought elsewhere. In my opinion, not recommended for anything over 15 amps. December 28, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent switch for my garage heater Good instructions are on the inside of the box. Takes up to 10 Gauge wire in the quick connect ports. Good price. October 17, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I needed This is exactly what I was looking for to control my garage heater. I was unable to find any other options that would not require the use of a relay system. This was a simple and easy way to solve the problem of reaching the controls on the heater or forgetting to turn it on the way out of the garage for the night. Instructions are listed on inside the box and are easy to read, including a diagram. The throw is heavy and I can feel the quality over the standard duty switches of the same brand. The wires were all very easy to install and overall installation was smooth. I have no issue with the switch. However, I do not like that the industrial switches do no have the small border around the switch, so it looks like there is a bad fit between the switch and the plate. Also, I was hoping that the green (or red for the 20A single pole version) would be visible to discern circuits. Therefore, it would be nice to have these specialty industrial switches in specialty colors like green, red, black, and brown (though I realize that some of those colors indicate features of the switch or the circuit it controls).
