Answer:
If you jam a plug in there enough times it might open up, or it might short out as was my experience. Replace it with non-TR receptacle. The NEC got it terribly wrong with these.

I have had this happen with a different model of TR outlet, and I chose to return it to Home Depot and exchange it. The replacement (of same make and model) has worked fine for me for over a year now. Home Depot did not bat an eye when I explained why I was returning the item.

If you are able, I recommend returning the outlet in question. You may be able to un-stick the TR mechanism so it is functional again, but failing once may be a hint that you have a defective product. Best to swap it out now while it's still a recent purchase. Read Less

Answer:
I have seen this happen before, they are a equalized latching tamper system, make sure the prongs on the cord are the same length, some foreign produced electrical cords are not and will not function with the tamper proof outlet correctly.

Answer:
Insert a two or three prong plug and push hard the first time. The shutters only open when pressure is supplied to both shutters equally. This is to keep babies from inserting keys into the hot slot.

Answer:
Good day,
The plastic shutters inside a Tamper Resistant receptacle will not open and allow access to the contacts unless a two-prong plug is evenly inserted into the outlet. This ensures that hairpins, keys, and other common household items are not inserted into the outlet. When using a Tamper Resistant outlet you have to push in the plug with more force than you would with a standard outlet

Can you backstab 12 gauge wire on these receptacles? I bought the cheaper non tamper resistent ones and you can only backstab 14 gauge wire.

Wow! That was amazingly fast! Are you a real person? Anyway, any reason why not? And, it's fine to side wire these receptacles with 12 gauge wire, right?

Answer:
These receptacles should fit in most existing boxes, but without knowing a box's dimensions, it's difficult to say for sure.

Answer:
Leviton Quickwire devices only accept up to 14AWG wire. You would need to side-wire your device if you only have access to 12AWG conductors.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great TR outlets Works as advertised. Purchased several dozen to swap our outlets (due to color) and get tamper resistance feature. I would recommend and buy again. August 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks great. Wanted to update old receptacles for much more modern look. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well, seems to be of satisfactory quality These have been functional and work well. I've updated all of the receptacles in my house to these Tamper Resistant models, and have had great luck with this particular brand and SKU. I have had other experiences with TR plugs that led me to feel pretty negative, but these have worked just fine. The back of these receptacles are easy to work with. The wire screws are at a good angle so it isn't a battle trying to get the wires into place. They look nice, and the Tamper Resistance works as advertised. Basically, if someone wants to shock themselves, they're going to need a coordinated effort and some decent motor skills to do it. This is a nice minimal protection for curious little fingers. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Levitron tamper resistant decora outlets I am replacing all of our homes outlets with the newer tamper resistant design due to a new grandson. They have worked very well so far. June 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by cheap upgrade well worth the safety in your home when i purchased my new home, the outlets in the renovated kitchen were these Leviton types and the rest of the house were the old style... my OCD kicked in, so i bought 2 of these 10 packs, and replaced the outlets when i painted each of the rooms... they look great with the oversized plate covers and high end... i will never look back to the old style and the tamper resistant helps for my little child in the house who will soon be running around... much of the code nowadays calls for tamper resistant so why not future proof? March 4, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by do not ever back wire, always use the screws all 10 had scratches. just throw them in a box because we don't care as long as its cheap. don't listen to me though, i'm that one guy who still cares. March 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good standard quality outlet Standard quality outlet, I have installed hundreds of these and never had a problem with them. May 5, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Recommended They handle just like any other outlet, but the back of the outlet is why I use these often and like them so much. The "rear-end" if you will, is thin ,and that makes it super easy to insert into the outlet box. A big plus on old-work boxes. March 10, 2015
