Violate either sided of this equation and either the bulbs won't dim or they will hum. Humming is bad, electronics in the bulbs could run excessively hot shortening their life or result in an unpleasant catastrophic failure.
Bottom line for ALL CFL/LED - dimmer solutions is this: BOTH must be rated as CFL / LED dimmable. Either of those more than about 5 years old likely won't work. Many of the new bulbs won't work either...make sure the blub packaging specifically states dimmable (some say not dimmable).
Lastly, don't mix LED / CFL bulb brands as they may dim at different rates. Even different models or generations lamp within a given brand may dim differently from one another. Read Less

I don't think so. All of my electrical was done by an electrician. I had six can lights put in the ceiling and after trying the incandescent-CFL-Led slide dimmer I had the electrician take them out because of the humming noise.

Answer:
Should work with incandescent, florescent or LED. If you try to simply change from incandescent to LED bulbs without changing to an LED compatible dimmer you are likely to have a hum resulting from the system. The LED compatible dimmer will eliminate this hum.

Answer:
Good day,
If you have the 6674 universal dimmer, then it will work with LED bulbs. If you have a SureSlide dimmer that was installed 22 years ago, it is most likely rated for incandescent bulbs only and will not work with LED bulbs.

I have a number of light bulbs installed on lamps , chandeliers, and ceiling spots all of which I would like to dim. How do i know what falls in the range of'incandescent, and dimmable LED and CFL? Neither my bulbs or their wrappings appear to make that clear.

Answer:
Good day,
Leviton’s universal dimmers are compatible with incandescent, halogen, dimmable CFL and LED bulbs. These bulb types are found in most residential applications. If you are unsure if the bulbs you currently have fall under these categories, you must contact a certified electrician.
