Hello Dan,
The threads usually cover around three to four inches on the drain. How far that descends below the sink drain will depend on how the sink was cast. I hope this helps.

Does that mean use NO putty or sealant at all? Or do you use a silicone sealant? Are the flexible gaskets sufficient for a 100% seal on this product?
